Betrayed By The Hero, Loved By The Lord novel Chapter 84

Chapter 84: Kiss for a secret (1)

"For how long do you intend to stay by my side? You don’t have to anymore as I have been saying for some time now," Selene said, staring at her husband.

Was there nothing for the lord of an estate to do?

"I am not upset about what happened earlier so you don’t have to worry about me. I am thankful you care but I feel like I am keeping you from something," Selene said, trying her best to get rid of Xavier.

Xavier didn’t budge. "Luckily for you, I am free at the moment. We should enjoy this time together."

Selene folded her lips into a thin line. She would enjoy this moment if it wasn’t just Xavier sitting watching her while she read a book.

Selene closed the book since she couldn’t focus on it. "Perhaps I was wrong. Maybe it is good for you to have your coffin so when you are bored you go there to lie down. It will not bother me anymore," she promised.

Xavier smiled, amused by her attempts to get rid of him. "Why would I bother with that coffin when my bed has proven to be far sweeter? Unless you intend to lay with me, I am not going anywhere."

Xavier continued, "You have ruined my love of coffins. I don’t wish to see you in one even if it were to be for fun. I am going to sit right here with you until I am certain you are well."

"I am well," Selene replied. What more could she do to prove that she was fine? "I understand how it might have looked then but I no longer worry about it. I trust that the town guards and even you will prove my innocence," she smiled.

"You have an awful way of sending me away. If my presence annoys you then simply say that. I won’t mind it," said Xavier.

"It is not that it annoys me but you stare without saying a word. I’m sure there are far more interesting portraits around the estate which you can stare at. Please do so," Selene suggested.

Xavier smiled, revealing his fangs. "Are you fishing for a compliment about your beauty compared to art? You don’t need to fish for it as I would gladly compliment you. You are beautiful.:"

"That I already know since you told me this morning. Is there honestly nothing more you have to say to me? I feel like there is trouble and you are sticking close so it will not reach my ears. I can handle it," Selene said, worried but still prepared for it. "We must be honest with each other."

"Very well. If you can answer my question honestly then I will tell you something I know. Have you felt something for me yet?" Xavier asked.

Selene bit her tongue. Why couldn’t he be the type to be shy about his feelings? "It would be hard for me to not feel something around you but I know it isn’t near what you feel. Now, tell me what you know."

Xavier believed Selene had been honest so he replied, "Rumours are going around the town that we were having an affair. Since we got married so fast and no one ever saw us together, it is understandable why many would believe it. I assume they will try to say you were meeting with me when Gabriel was away."

"I expected this," Selene responded.

"You are my lovely wife. If I were to walk in on someone being rough with you, I might be quick to end them. You wouldn’t like that would you?" Xavier asked though he knew she wouldn’t.

"I would not. I know you will try to have fun but it will be good to learn from one of the best. Would you be so kind as to teach me any of your tricks?" Selene asked, purposely smiling to sway him.

Xavier raised his brow and played as if he didn’t know what she meant. "Tricks?"

"Do not act like you do not know what is said. It has always reached me that you inherited many talents from the first Blackthorns. I have always heard that you are far ahead of your peers. If it is something you can teach me, I would love to learn," Selene said, excited just at the thought of it.

"I believe we have already spoken about what it would take for you to learn my secrets. One for every secret," Xavier said, tapping his lips.

Selene frowned. How could it have slipped her mind that he wanted a kiss for his secrets? It was something she should always remember so she would never ask about his secrets.

As she did before, Selene thought of forgetting about knowing his secrets but she was curious at this point. What made Xavier stand out from his peers? Why were the Blackthorns so interested in how strong his children could be?

Selene set her book to the side and made a decision that surprised her. "One kiss and you will need to answer my question."

Selene noticed Xavier was surprised since it was likely he never expected her to agree to this. For some reason, she liked his reaction to her doing something he did not anticipate.
