Chapter 11
I gave him my most understanding smile. “Go. I’m fine, really. It’s not easy for her alone with the kid.”
“Elara… thank you for always being so gentle and understanding,” he said, visibly moved.
The moment he left, my smile vanished. All these years, I’d played the sweet, accommodating wife–and of course he appreciated it. But he’d never truly cherished it.
Well, fine. I wouldn’t be the good little wife waiting for him anymore, always putting him first. I’d use his fresh guilt to my advantage–to get what I needed, to set myself up for life after the divorce.
Just as I’d steadied my emotions, my best friend Chloe called.
“Hey sweetie, feel like a drink after work?”
“Sure. But late–my medical livestream ends at ten.”

It had started as covering for a colleague, but after a few clips blew up on TikTok–dubbing me “The Angel Doctor“-the hospital made it a regular gig. Funny enough, with my usual no–makeup look, no one had connected the dots.
“I’ll pick you up after overtime,” Chloe said. “Perfect timing.”
After the call, my mood lifted. At least this marriage had given me freedom: Zane never pried, the Windsors kept their distance, and I’d built a real career. I’d even saved up a decent amount.
By ten, the livestream wrapped. Chloe’s car was waiting downstairs.
“You’re in a good mood,” she noted as I got in. “Divorce moving that smoothly?”
“Worth a drink to celebrate,” I said with a faint smile.
The bar was packed, loud and buzzing. Thanks to Chloe knowing the owner, we had a spot waiting.
When she returned from the restroom, I was already sipping my first drink.
“Does Zane even know you drink?” she asked, amused.
“Haha, whether I drink out or not is my call. He doesn’t get a say!” I laughed, clinking my glass with Chloe’s. “Here’s to freedom.”
“Cheers, babe. It’s about damn time,” Chloe winked. “So, thinking about dating after the divorce? Plenty of eye candy around. See anyone you like?”
She wasn’t wrong. The world was full of young, attractive men.
Case in point: a handsome, sun–kissed guy not far away was already sending a wolf–whistle in my direction. Chloe spotted him too, elbowing me with a knowing grin.
She was just about to say something when a sudden chant erupted from a nearby crowd-
“Kiss! Kiss! Kiss! Kiss!”
My eyes widened as I turned to see what the commotion was about.
My God, for a second there, I could barely believe my eyes.
“What’s up, sweetie?” Chloe asked, curious.

Chapter 11
“Uh… I don’t even know how to describe it. Let’s just say… it’s a surprise.”
My feeli
were all over the place. Even though I’d known they were messing around, seeing it with my own eyes… was a whole different level of ugh.
Chloe followed my gaze, and her eyebrows practically knitted together on the spot. Her face was a picture of pure fury. “What the actual hell? Is that bastard Zane?! What’s he doing here?!”
Right there, in the middle of the dance floor under the strobe lights, that familiar, handsome face stuck out like a sore thumb.
He had a woman in a red dress wrapped around him–clinging to him like a vine, putting on a shy, demure act, yet her arms were locked around his
neck.
And the man who was usually the picture of a cold, untouchable elite?
Now he was looking down at her with nothing but pure, undiluted indulgence in his eyes, as if she was his whole damn world.
Chloe stared at them for a few more seconds, her mouth twisting in disgust. “So that’s the tacky–looking homewrecker? Amelia
