Betrayed? I Upgraded to His Billionaire Brother novel Chapter 124

A familiar wave of unease swept over me once again.

Yes, it was true.

We had spent so many years as strangers—eight entire years, to be exact. That was at least a third of our lives lived completely apart from one another.

I hadn’t bought him gifts or picked out clothes for him in what felt like forever.

How could I possibly know his current height or weight now?

Eight years was an eternity. If Scout were still alive, he’d have grown into a large dog by now.

And as for Gavin… his shoulders and back were noticeably broader than they had been nearly a decade ago.

I swallowed my hesitation and decided to ask. “If you tell me, then I’ll know.”

His face remained expressionless. “No use,” he said flatly. “Clothes have to be tried on. Buying something just based on numbers won’t fit properly.”

He made a good point.

I’d forgotten that at his level, wearing custom-made suits was second nature, like breathing. Allowing me to choose something off-the-rack was already a significant concession.

I wasn’t entirely sure what he was implying.

If he expected me to have a tailor create a suit for him… that would definitely blow my budget out of the water. Gavin’s everyday suits started in the six-figure range, and the one he’d lent me that night was even more outrageously expensive.

But it was my fault he’d lost a suit.

“So, what do we do then?” I didn’t want to settle for the easy way out either. Gritting my teeth, I asked, “Which tailor do you use? I can go and—”

He cut me off abruptly. “When are you going to the store?”

“Um?”

His tone suggested he wasn’t planning to make me spend a fortune.

“I’m not sure yet,” I replied quickly. “I need to check my clinic schedule first.”

“Let me know when you decide on a time.”

“Huh?”

“I’ll try them on myself,” Gavin said, his gaze cold and unreadable as it swept over me, his voice detached as always.

And then, out of nowhere, on a whim, he decides to get revenge for me.

Theodore might be ruined, but I almost got killed in the process.

I’d been thinking about it over the past few days—Margaret’s sudden change of heart and letting me go had to be because Gavin did something.

Maybe Margaret couldn’t touch me right now, but the day Gavin changes his mind again, she’ll make me pay for everything, with interest.

Gavin pressed his tongue against his cheek, his fury barely contained as he leaned down so his eyes met mine. “Who told you it was a sudden urge?”

I froze.

I had always been quick-witted, and I could hear the unspoken offer in his words.

All I had to do was play along, be submissive, and I could be the little sister Gavin doted on once more.

He would protect me, just like he did for those nine years.

But…

But when would the next abandonment come?
