Chapter 280
Chapter 280
Third person POV
“Alden knew the family, while accepting his career choice, still somewhat disapproved. Swallowing the urge to walk away, and acting on the principle of aking a knife for a brother, he grinned. “Hey, bro, Just saw you having dinner with little Elara?”
tating the obvious.
¡enjamin tapped his fingers lightly on the steering wheel. “Weren’t you and Gavin watching from upstairs for ages?” Elara had been too focused on the
ocuments to notice, but he’d spotted them right away..
iden’s eyebrow twitched. He didn’t deny it. “So, what did you and little Elara talk about?”
enjamin countered, “Who sent you to gossip?” He saw right through him and Gavin.
dden wasn’t the least bit ashamed. Leaning against the car next to him, he threw Gavin under the bus without hesitation. “Who do you think?”
Project–related matters.” Benjamin was evasive, protecting my privacy. He then changed the
ubject. “You’re not still seeing that girl from the Tong family, are you? Big Sis is coming to New York in a couple of days. Don’t put yourself in the line of fire.”
…” Aiden’s scalp prickled. “I know.”
When it came to the eldest Sinclair sister, it wasn’t just him who capitulated. The whole family did. From their grandparents down to the grand–turtles in the
ond, everyone obeyed her without question.
s Benjamin was about to drive off, Aiden, seemingly possessed by a sudden madness, spoke again. “Bro… do you think if I weren’t a Sinclair… I could marry her
hen?”
enjamin’s brows furrowed deeply. “Are you saying you’d abandon your family for a girl? Aiden, you should resign from the hospital. A doctor with water on he brain will only misdiagnose patients. Get your head on straight. I’ll pretend I never heard that.”
nyone hearing that would think he’d lost his mind, not just Benjamin.
he car sped away, leaving Aiden in a cloud of exhaust fumes.
eah.
verything he had, his family had given him. They’d indulged him at every turn. With Big Sis in politics and Second Brother in business, they bore all the ressure, allowing him to bask in the family’s prestige while doing whatever he wanted. His grandparents and parents, because he was one of the youngest,
oted on him excessively.
that comment of his reached their ears… it would break their hearts.
breeze of early summer ruffled his hair. Standing in the night, his expression wavered for only a fleeting moment before settling back into its usual ristocratic composure. He walked back into the restaurant with his characteristic lazy stride.
lara’s POV
ack at the apartment, I parked in the underground garage, turned off the engine, but didn’t get out for a long time.
he confirmed folder on the passenger seat felt like a boulder on my chest, making it hard to breathe.
hat tiny, foolish spark of hope was extinguished. I didn’t know how to face Gavin now. I also hadn’t figured out how, facing a behemoth like the Windsor amily, I could ever give my parents the justice they deserved.
midst the chaos in my head, the passenger door opened.

I turned to look, my expression freezing for a second. “What are you doing here?”
“Just got back. Saw your car lights on.” Zane picked up the folder from the passenger seat and slid in, his eyes warm and concerned. “Are you struggling with how to handle things with Gavin?”
I looked away, my voice a little hoarse. “Something like that.” Even our contractual agreement couldn’t truly convince me now.
How ironic.
The person I’d trusted with my whole heart for nine years as a child, the one who’d driven me to the brink of despair over the last nine years, the one i seemed to be falling for now… was the grandson of my enemy.
One of the people I considered most important.
The chasm between us now was far wider than just social status.
It was two lives. My parents‘ lives.
It was a fucking cosmic joke.
Zane reached out as if to ruffle my hair, but when I instinctively flinched back, he slowly withdrew his hand with a sigh. “If I hadn’t told you… would you be hurting this much right now?”
A bitter smile touched my lips. “Then my parents would have died in vain, forever.”
“I can avenge them for you.”
Hearing his immediate offer, I was taken aback. I looked at him. “You might be willing. But is the Zhou family?” He carried more than just his own life on his shoulders.
Zane was silent for a moment. “The Zhou family…” -would have to be, willing or not. His life, and his mother’s, were both saved by me.
“Zane,” I interrupted him, taking a sharp breath. “I’m already grateful you helped me find this out. I’ll handle the rest myself.” I didn’t want to owe any more favors. Let this be the end of it. Let everything between us be settled.
