Betrayed? I Upgraded to His Billionaire Brother novel Chapter 49

chapter 49

Gavin!

The scent of cedar and vetiver was so familiarI didn’t even need to see him to know.

My mind flashed to that time I’d passed out in the snow, and someone had carried me to a hotel

That had been him too.

But what was the point?

When I’d needed someone, no one had stood by me. No matter how much I’d begged,

So now, when I didn’t need him-

I didn’t need anyone to protect me anymore. I wouldn’t rely on anyone ever again.

Gavin, put me down!

He adjusted his grip, and I caught a glimpse of his profile in the erratic light of the stormthe sharp, uncompromising line of his jaw, hair already dusted with snow. He let out a low sound, almost a laugh, but his tone was frostier than the ground I’d just been kneeling on. Not calling me Mr. Windsoranymore?

I bit back my frustration. Mr. Windsor. Please put me down.

His voice was as cold as the ground I’d just been kneeling on. Haven’t you knelt long enough, Elara? Do you enjoy the feeling of kneeling? Why can’t you be kinder to yourself?

He seemed incredibly angry, utterly unable to comprehend.

I had no answer.

The butler hurried after us, his voice tense. Young Master, you may leave, but Miss Elara must stay.

Go back and ask her who Elara truly belongs to.

Gavin didn’t slow his pace, his long legs eating up the ground with an effortless, almost predatory grace that was both mesmerizing and terrifying If anyone dares to slap her around like that again, I guarantee Theodore will be the next one chumming the waters.

Third Person POV

The butler returned and delivered the message verbatim,

Theodore, who hadn’t expected to be dragged into this, shuddered. Grandmother, didn’t Gavin say years ago he was done with Elara? What’s this about now?

Since when can a brain like yours comprehend how his works?Margaret smiled coldly. Look at his status and power now. If he’s in the mood to protect the girl, isn’t that his prerogative?

But he can’t disrespect you like this

Look at who New York is named after these days!

Of course, it still bears the Windsor name,Theodore said dismissively.

chapter 49

Margaret’s voice was icy. It’s Gavin Windsor’s Windsor. Not Margaret Windsor’s Windsor!

She wondered if Gavin could maintain this arrogance forever.

Nevertheless, she warned Theodore, Don’t do anything stupid over that girl. If you provoke Gavin, he has a hundred ways to deal with you.

Then what am I supposed to do? I fell so hard because of her

He doesn’t have a long attention spancan he protect someone forever?

Margaret’s expression was sinister. Who knows? Maybe one day he’ll discard her again, just like before. Your chance with Elara will come.

A black Bentley was parked at the entrance to the old estate, its sleek lines a statement of silent power against the chaotic weather.

The wind and snow raged.

Gavin strode forward with Elara slung over his shoulder. Even burdened, his posture was ramrod straight, his movements efficient and controlled. The storm had tousled his usually impeccable dark hair, and melting snow gleamed on the sharp planes of his face, highlighting a complexion that spoke more of boardrooms than the outdoors. His charcoal coat was soaked across the shoulders, clinging to a frame that was lean but unmistakably powerful.

Neil followed close behind, holding a black umbrella, though it did little to protect his employer from the driving snow.

But not a single snowflake landed on Elara.

Seeing Gavin and Elara come out, the driver quickly got out to open the car door.

After a bout of dizziness, Elara finally felt solid ground under her feet, her stomach churning as if she’d been drinking.

Gavin frowned imperceptibly, saying coldly: Get in the car quickly.

I’ll take a taxi myself

Before she could finish speaking, a limited edition Maybach slowly drove over and stopped steadily nearby.

Zane opened the door, holding an umbrella, and walked over with composed calmness. After nodding slightly to Gavin, he looked at Elara, his tone naturally casual.

Elara, I’m here to take you home.
