Betrayed? I Upgraded to His Billionaire Brother novel Chapter 63

chapter 63

Seriously? I just promised Elias I’d keep my work and personal life separate.

I could only take a slow, quiet breath, forcing myself to treat Gavin like any other important client. I shifted deeper into the booth, making space.

Reluctant as I am to say it,Gavin had that sixthree frame that turned headsbroad shoulders, long legs, the kind of build that made even professional models look underwhelming. Even seated, he commanded the room with an intensity that was hard to ignore.

The scent of cedarwood and lemongrass drifted from hima familiar fragrance that once again made Ethan’s image surface in my mind. Strange how every time I saw Gavin, I thought of Ethan. And after Ethan’s accidental death, Gavin never once publicly mentioned this friend from his school days.

Elias looked surprised, but years of business dinners had trained him well. He recovered quickly, turning to the server with an easy smile.

Gavin, would you like to see the menu? Should we add anything?

Gavin’s eyes swept indifferently over the dishes already on the tablepanseared salmon, roasted asparagus, barbecue ribs, honeyglazed carrots

He set the menu aside, tone even. No need. I happen to like these dishes, too.

Too.

That word landed in my ears with unexpected weight.

After all those years growing up together, my tastes had somehow ended up aligning perfectly with his.

The rest of the meal left me restless.

As I took the last sip of my coconut water and set the glass down, I heard Elias say warmly, Today was a bit rushed. Next time, I’ll properly treat you to

a meal, Gavin.

Today was fine.

Gavin’s tone was casual, detachedthat familiar, superior calm he always carried.

But I didn’t have the mind to dwell on that. All I knew was that his words meant this dinner was finally over.

I stood when Elias did. Elias, I’ll drive you back.

My driver’s outside. He can take you.

Gavin cut in, stopping Elias. The curve of his lips was barely there. I have something to discuss with my sister.

Sister.

Sister?

Was he out of his mind? Every time we were around Elias, he’d pull that sistercard.

If he wanted to get Elias to leave, then this was personal.

I frowned, my polite facade finally cracking. Gavin, I don’t recall us having anything that needs discussing in private.

He glanced sideways at me, expression unreadable. Charles asked me to return something to you. Don’t want it?

I didn’t argue further, just looked at Elias. Elias, you go ahead.

He still seemed a little concerned, but knowing we’d once been like siblings, he finally nodded and left.

The moment he was gone, I held my hand out to Gavin. What is it?

Gavin didn’t even blink, tucking one hand casually into his pocket as he walked straight outside.

I couldn’t, for the life of me, remember leaving anything with Charles. Reluctantly, I followed him.

Somehow, he recognized my car and stopped right in front of it. He tugged the handle. When it didn’t give, he lifted his eyes to me.

I took a deep breath. Do we really have to get in the car just for you to return something?

My car took Elias home. Won’t you give me a ride?

I never asked you to do that, I thought.

But then I remembered how he’d helped me out at the Windsor estate a few days back, so I hit the unlock button anyway.

He settled smoothly into the passenger seat and handed over a pendant, his voice low and layered with something I couldn’t quite read. What, did you think this would make Zane change his mind?
