Chapter 4
LOGAN
My phone buzzed against my skin in my pocket as I was watching my son squeal with delight while he was being taken for a joyride on the spinning tea cup.
I pulled it out as I took a glance at the phone in my hand, squinting to read screen.
“Let’s get divorced.”
I stared at the message from Sedona, then shook my head and slipped the phone’ back into my pocket. She was being dramatic again. There was no way she would mean this, not knowing how much she loved me. She was trying to get me to come home on time thinking I would be affected if she did something drastic like this.
This wasn’t the first time, she had pulled something this extreme. Ever since Katherine came back from abroad, she had been calling and texting in the middle of doing important things with her acting possessive and jealous which was exhausting.
“Is everything okay? You look tensed about something” I was pulled away from my thoughts by Katherine’s voice who had come to stand by me, linking her hand with me, her face flushed with joy despite ger injuries.
She glowed in the California light looking every bit the star beauty she was in my eyes and much more than that, less petty and vindictive.
“It’s fine,” I said, watching Nick wave at us from the ride as I shrugged my shoulders and continued speaking. “Just Sedona being Sedona….I guess.”
Katherine’s expression shifted to something I couldn’t quite read, like she was thinking about something as she spoke softly.
“She’s called a lot today, hasn’t she? Maybe we should go back and check on her, she might be lonely to have texted this much in the space of hours. I’d hate to think she’s upset because of me.”
“She’s fine,” I said, perhaps more sharply than I intended. As I tried dial back the anger in my tone as continued.
“We’re here to keep you company while you recover from your injury. You shouldn’t have to cut your rest short because Sedona can’t understand that other people have needs too and the world doesn’t revolve around her.”
“Logan…” Katherine touched my arm lightly. “Maybe she’s just feeling left out? Nick has been spending a lot of time with me lately. It’s natural for a mother to feel like she is being pushed back to second place in her son’s heart.”
“It’s natural for a child to admire someone
Add to Library and inspiring, regardless of who it is. This
is not a bad thing at all, to have a role model that he can look up to” I interrupted. “Nick looks up to you, Katherine. He sees what excellence looks like. Sedona shouldn’t be jealous of that. She should be encouraging it. She should want the best for her son at all costs.”
The ride slowed to a stop, and Nick came running over, his face red from excitement and joy. But instead of talking about the ride that he just got drown from, he talked about his mum.
“Dad, Mom called again,” he said, rolling his eyes in a way that reminded me of his grand mother.
