Chapter 53: Not Giving Up Now
Cameron’s POV
She turned her head to look at me directly.
“Is that what you think I’d be doing? Suffering for other people? That I am doing this because I care about other people and might feel guilty because they would think I was someone who gave up without putting up a fight.”
“I think you’d be suffering, period. That is all, I wasn’t trying to imply anything else. You don’t know how much I want you to… what I am trying to say, is that I think you have every right to decide you don’t want to spend your last weeks ill with only a small chance that it’ll make any difference, the doctors are not sure on that. I don’t want you to feel like you have to do this. Only the wearer knows where the shoes pinches”
“What do you think I should do then? I want to hear your opinion on this”
The question caught me off guard as I stumbled slightly, looking at her before composing myself as I replied.
“It’s not my decision. I can’t make this for you, you have to decide it yourself.”
“I know. But if it were? What would you choose? I want you to be sincere with me. Do not think of trying to spare my feelings in this situation”.
I thought about it carefully, trying to separate what I wanted from what was actually best for her, so I won’t influence her with my ideas. But the line was harder and kept blurring so I decided to keep it honest with her. She would know that I wasn’t doing this to influence her.
“I’d probably try the treatment, if there was a chance that it might work.” I admitted, not looking at her uncertain if I wanted to see the expression on ger face.
