Chapter 100
Chapter 100
Aurelia’s POV
The voice laughed and the sound alone told me exactly who it belonged to before he even wand the marrie
“Karlen, how the fuck did you get my number?”
“Clever girl.” I could hear the smile in his voice, unbothered, like calling another Alphus wife in the middle of the night was the most natural thing in the world. I have my ways, little wolf. You should know that by new
“How did you get this number?” I kept my voice low, glancing back towards the bedroom door, making, wire u stayed closed.
“Does it matter? I got it. That’s all you need to know His voice dropped lower. “You’ve been on my mind, Aurelia. That night in Ridgeline, the way you looked at me, half asleep and half convinced you belonged there. We never finished what we started
“There was nothing to finish.
“Wasn’t there?” A low chuckle followed, unhurried, the kind of sound a man made when he already knew be had rattled you. “You felt the pull that night I know you did. That isn’t something Kierk gives you, is it? Something that recognized me before your mind ever caught up You have never told him about that, have you?”
“Goodbye, Kaelen.” I pulled the phone away from my ear, my thumb already hovering over the button to end
the call.
“Wait.” Something, changed in his tone, the playfulness quickly draining, out of it, replaced by something sharper. “I have something to tell you. That’s the real reason I called
I hesitated, the phone halfway back to my ear. “What?”
“The drive. Dawson’s black book. I copied everything on it before I damaged it. There was a pause, letting the weight of the words settle. “As a matter of fact, I made sure it stayed useless to everyone but me
My stomach turned cold. “Why would you do that?”
“Leverage, sweetheart. Isn’t that obvious. He laughed again. “You never even cared to know what was on that drive, did you? Never once asked Rieck, never once demanded to see it yourself. Strange, for a woman who broke into a vault to steal it
“That’s because I don’t need to know.”
“Well, maybe you should. I heard the smile return to his voice, slower now, the kind that made my skin prickle even through the phone. “There’s more in that black book than Dawson’s crimes, little wolf. Things about your husband’s farmily too Things about mine. Guess what. I’m willing to make a deal. Come to my place Alone And I’ll tell you about your father.”
My my father? My grip tightened around the phone until my knuckles turned white. “What do you know about my father?”

Silence answered me first, long enough that I thought the line had gone dead entirely, my pulse pounding loud in my own ears while I waited.
“Kaelen.” My voice cracked, sharper than I meant it. “Tell me. Now.”
“Not over the phone.” There was something almost gentle in his voice now, an odd tenderness. “Come to Ridgeline. Alone. And I will give you every piece of him I know. Everything Hebvron never told you, everything Rieck can’t tell you even if he wanted to.”
“Kaelen, please.”
The call ended.
I dialed him back immediately, my fingers trembling so badly I nearly dropped the phone twice.
The number you have dialed is currently unreachable.
I tried again. Same result. A third time, just to be sure, my thumb pressing the screen harder than it needed to, as though the force might undo whatever had just happened.
Yet nothing.
Sinking down against the wall, I slid until I sat on the cold floor of the hallway, staring at the phone in my hands like it might somehow ring again if I only waited long enough.
Every version of Kaelen’s voice replayed in my head, the teasing warmth at the start, the sudden gentleness the moment my father entered the conversation, the calculated way he had let the line go dead the exact second I started to beg.
I stood frozen in the hallway long after the call disconnected, the phone still clutched tight in my hand.
My father.
I knew nothing about him. Not his voice, not his laugh, barely even the shape of his face anymore, just a fading photograph Marta had once shown me from an old file, a man with light hair and eyes almost yellow, gone before I turned five years old.
An orphanage had raised me on scraps of a story no one ever finished, a man who dropped his daughter at a stranger’s door and promised to return when it was safe, a promise he never kept.
And somehow, impossibly, Kaelen claimed to know something I had spent my entire life wondering about.
Maybe he is lying. Maybe he only wants me alone in his territory again, dangling my father like bait because he knows exactly what I would risk to hear the truth.
I wanted to believe that. It would have been easier to believe that.
Kaelen had already proven himself a man who played long, patient games, who kept a damaged drive as leverage instead of destroying it outright, who had carried me bleeding through snow only to press stolen
