(BL) Hunting The Field Guide novel Chapter 110

Chapter 110: She wouldn’t have made it up, would she?

When Kellen finally made it to their side, he noticed that Gunther had a bruise forming on his face. Stunned, Kellen turned his gaze towards the S Class Captain of the Saturn Guild, but he was unrepentant. He smiled at Kellen, his eyes crinkling up at the corners as his yellow eyes stared down at him.

"That was a rather exciting sparring session. What do you and your sister practise? I don’t think I’ve seen that exact martial art before." Kellen shrugged at the Captain’s question, but he was slightly suspicious. As far as he knew, the Captain hadn’t really been watching. He’d had his back turned.

"I have no idea. Mom taught it both to Gwen and I when we were young. Neither one of us had manifested yet, but we had a lot of energy and needed to get it out. From what she taught us, it’s purely defensive and not meant to harm others, only escape." Hill seemed impressed.

"It was amazing to see it in full motion. Is that the fastest you two can do it together?" She asked, clearly interested, and Kellen shrugged again.

"Whenever we move faster than that it gets a little messy and our forms aren’t perfect, so we try not to. It’s something Mom drilled into us. If our forms aren’t perfect, it doesn’t count. Redo it. Either way, I’m covered in dirt and water, so I think that’s all for my workout today. I have a big day tomorrow." He gave a small smile. freewёbn૦νeɭ.com

Kellen turned and grabbed his shirt that he had tossed to the side, and glanced back at them. He had hoped that he would have broken the tension between the three of them, but it didn’t appear that he had. Obviously, the Captain was pissed at Gunther for allowing someone to get hurt, but in fairness to him, Kellen knew he was a little bit reckless. He should have stopped himself, and didn’t. But at the same time, he felt it was a good learning experience for the new recruits. Dangerous situations could happen to anyone.

"So let me get this straight, your Mom basically made that up as far as you’re concerned?" She seemed incredibly impressed. "I think I’ll have to talk to her about this. Are you planning to teach the new Field Guides this as well?" Hill asked and Kellen shrugged again.

"That will depend on how they do tomorrow. The only Guide who Brent and I know we need to have up to snuff is Bree, so everyone else will have to show that they actually want to be there tomorrow for us to take them seriously." Kellen pulled on his shirt, glancing at the Captain before speaking again.

"Have you had a chance to meet Bree yet?" Hill asked, and Kellen nodded.

"Yes. She seems like a determined girl. We’ll see how she does." Hill chuckled.

"I don’t think those Guides have any idea what they’ve signed up for." Her eyes sparkled as she looked over the topless, scarred up and chiseled Kellen. He’d gotten more fit in the two days she hadn’t seen him, and she had a feeling that was what had the Captain by the tongue.

"That being said, I don’t know how physically fit they are either, which will play into what they will be learning. With how Mom taught us, you need to be able to hold a position for a long time before you can learn the next step. What you saw before, when Gwen and I were going slowly, was sped up from when we originally learned it. Mom was very serious about perfection." Kellen chuckled, and the Captain, who had been slightly stiff when it came to Kellen, watched him.

"You know, the more you describe this, the more I’m beginning to think your Mother taught it to her two rambunctious children to help them get their energy out." Gunther said, and Kellen smiled.

"I can’t say that isn’t true." Kellen hummed. "I have thought that Mom taught it to us to keep us out of trouble. We were quite a problem for our Dad while she was away originally. The fact that it benefited us wasn’t even on the table." Hill chuckled, along with Gunther. Kellen felt his eyes were drawn towards the Captain, who kept staring at him with a tight smile on his face.

"I’m glad that you agreed to be the Field Guide instructor, Kellen. I feel like if we had asked anyone else it wouldn’t be going this smoothly." Kellen furrowed his brows. He hadn’t even had the first lesson yet, only an overwhelming meeting. Kellen had no idea why Hill thought this was going smoothly. Tomorrow could be a disaster.

"I’m disappointed. I was really looking forward to seeing how you were going to convince me." Kellen broke eye contact with him, moving the Captain’s hand off of his head. He felt that his cheeks were still flushed, and he knew he was running away, but he felt that if he was in a closed room with the Captain right now, something...dangerous could happen. He had a busy day tomorrow. He couldn’t allow that to happen.

"I’m probably disgusting since I’ve been rolling around on the ground in dirt and mud. You should go wash your hands, Captain." Kellen glanced towards the others, before sighing. "I’ll see you guys later, alright?" Kellen gave a bright smile at them, and watched in slight horror as the Captain raised his hand to his nose and sniffed. His eyes were wide as Kellen flushed red like a tomato, and the two lieutenants grinned, used to the Captain’s antics.

"We’ll see you tomorrow Kellen!" Hill waved widely as Kellen rushed towards the entrance to the gym. He only glanced behind him once, to meet the Captain’s still deep, golden gaze. He flushed again.

Making his way towards the elevators, he gripped the dirty t-shirt in his hand tightly before the elevator opened, and he stepped inside. He wondered why the Captain had been in such a strange mood. He’d guided him slightly when he’d kissed him, just to be safe, but he seemed completely fine. He’d been good ever since Kellen had warned him, but he was an S Class Esper. There might be something else he didn’t know yet.

Kellen’s chest tightened, along with his grip on the t-shirt.

The Captain was a grown man, in fact, he was older then Kellen. He had been taking care of himself perfectly fine without Kellen in his life before this. They were just a pair, and the Captain as an S Class Esper would know what he would need more than Kellen would. He’d only been a C Class Guide up until about two weeks ago. He shouldn’t shove his nose where it didn’t belong. Especially when it caused this sharp pain in his chest. To Kellen, that was a sign that he should keep his opinions to himself.

It wasn’t the first time he’d felt this way around the Captain. He doubted it would be the last.
