It was after a few minutes that someone knocked on the door.
"Uh, Guide Woods? Are you alright in there?" It was the same lady as before, and Kellen sighed. He would have liked to brush his teeth, but had a feeling that there wasn’t anything in this multipurpose bathroom that would cater to that. Flushing and getting back to his feet, shaking slightly, Kellen gathered himself before he responded.
"I will be fine. Let me know when the shakes arrive." Kellen’s voice was slightly hoarse, but he paid no attention to it. Even the clawing uncomfortable feeling that remained in his mouth and his body. Instead, he turned to the sink and began to wash his mouth out, spitting over and over until he felt better.
Throwing up had been the better option. If he had tried to keep it in, it would have only harmed him. He had no idea why the young Guide outside wasn’t throwing their guts up, but he wasn’t going to question them either. He did want to have a talk with the manager even more now, but had a feeling that the ship had sailed.
If a group of Guides were allowing that to happen to their own? He didn’t want to work with them anyways.
It was just unfortunate that the alternative was fucking Guiding Center A.
He should have some hope, there was another Guiding Center that hadn’t gotten back to him at all. Guiding Center E, but he couldn’t expect them to have the same reaction as Guiding Center D. They could lock him in a room and ignore him until something major happened like Guiding Center C did.
Taking a moment to look at himself in the mirror, Kellen could tell he was still a little pale, and that idiot had sucked a lot more of his powers away than he thought. It did make sense to him, especially since it was basically a forced guiding session and those were always more of a burden on the Guide. Plus, there was the weird gunk in him as well and Kellen was only able to clear a third of it.
Kellen’s expression was grim as he stared at himself in the mirror, but he also realised that the blue of his eyes was a little more intense than usual. Wait, had his eyes been glowing?
Kellen flushed, embarrassed. No wonder everyone had done what he’d asked! He’d basically oppressed them into doing so! Now he felt bad, since it was hard for anyone under A Class to ignore the orders of someone higher than them. That applied to Espers and Guides. Now Kellen felt bad for the small group in the main room.
Another knock on the door.
"Uh, Guide Woods? I think the shakes have arrived. Shall I go retrieve them from the lobby?" Kellen sighed at her question.
"Yes, if you could." Kellen answered and took a few more minutes checking on himself in the mirror and watched as the colour came back into his face. He stepped out of the bathroom at the same time that the Esper wheeled in a giant cooler and another Esper in the Saturn Guild uniform. Kellen blinked as he met the silver gaze of the redheaded Esper who he saw often in the gym and who had helped him out.
She smiled and waved at him.
"Hey Guide Woods. I was sent in Esper Green’s place to check on you. Also, the Captain was very worried." All that work to get the colour back into his face was for nothing in a few seconds. Kellen sighed and covered his face with his hands as he heard her chuckle. "He’s in a meeting, so everything’s fine. Lieutenant Hill and Lieutenant Gunther talked him out of coming here." Kellen shook his head, only allowing himself a moment before he relaxed his shoulders, uncovered his face, and was back to himself.
Moving swiftly to the cooler, he yanked the lid up before glancing at the young Guide.
"Cookies and cream, chocolate, or vanilla?" He asked the newer Guide, who blinked, before a flush touched his cheeks.
"C-Cookies and cream?" He responded questioningly, and Kellen nodded before rifling through the cooler and grabbing all of the flavour he requested. Cookies and cream was the base flavour that Taylor had made, and Kellen didn’t hate it. But it wasn’t his favourite.
Gathering all of the flavour in his arms, he carried them over and dropped them in front of the kid who had finished the grapes and cookies, hopefully without help. The Guiding Center C people were staring at Kellen’s actions with wide, shocked eyes.
"Drink these." Kellen ordered, before backtracking and grabbing several shakes for himself. "That man was disgusting, and you should wash that flavour out of you." The Esper from his Guild perked up in the worst way.
"It’s Blake, but you can call me Jenny." Ah, some dots were connecting. Kellen was pretty sure he’d heard an Esper Blake mentioned by Gwen at some point. freёwebnovel.com
For Kellen, it was, but that was because he was in charge of an S Class Esper. Most other Guides if they weren’t working in an intense field like he was wouldn’t have to do this. It was why Taylor had probably manufactured them in the first place. It was only going to benefit the Guild she worked for.
Finishing about 8 bottles to himself in the time it took the younger Guide to finish 2, Kellen tossed the empties into the garbage can in the bathroom before he finally decided it was time to deal with the ’security team’ that had come to deal with the problem.
"Alright. Esper Blake, keep an eye on our youngest here while I go talk to everyone else in the hallway." Esper Blake saluted Kellen, a smile on her face.
"Yes Sir!" She said cheerfully, and Kellen wanted to laugh. Because her eyes were already silvery-gray, you couldn’t tell when she was using her powers besides the slight, subtle glow that came to them. Kellen wondered if the Captain intentionally looked for people who had unique traits about their powers and recruited them. Was it to hide his own uniqueness of his powers? Or to make sure that they were well taken care of?
Kellen pushed those kinds of hopeful thoughts to the back of his mind as he marched the security team to the hallway. The two Espers of the group seemed to be holding up well, while the two Guides were not. Kellen had very little sympathy for them.
"Guide Woods, you are very much overstepping in any capacity right now." Kellen crossed his arms, staring at the woman who had escorted him to his room who knew damn well that the Guiding Center had been out of line. Kellen, for his part, frowned as he met her gaze.
The rest of the group could feel the tension between them, and were clearly worried that it would escalate. There was a reason beyond monitoring that Kellen had kept Esper Blake in the room.
"Oh? Was I? I had no idea." Kellen said with a smile that didn’t reach his eyes. "Maybe if I hadn’t been ignored through emails and then tucked into a room that was clearly an insult to my current Class and status, this wouldn’t have happened." Kellen watched as she paled. "Do not think I am an idiot. I know that the third and fourth floors are meant for C Class Guides. Did you think I was a dumb idiot and I wouldn’t catch onto the first slight you had directed my way?" Kellen watched as she tried to open her mouth to respond, but shut it. Kellen laughed harshly. "Nothing to say? How about explaining why the fuck you clearly dislike me so much when I’ve barely had any interactions with Guiding Center C? Hmm? Is it the Guild? Is it because I’m a Guide? Or is it a personal issue because this?" Kellen gestured to the room they had all just left. "That is unacceptable. From anyone’s viewpoint." Her jaw was hard, and Kellen glanced around the four of them to find them all swallowing thickly with clenched hands.
"T-That was an exception. It rarely happen-" A Guide began to speak up to defend them, and Kellen shot them a glowing, hard blue look.
"Rarely happens? Do you know what it takes to get to that kind of thinness?" The Guide shut the fuck up, because they did. It was clear that they were either hoping, or had thought that Kellen was an idiot. Kellen snorted. "Do you take me for some kind of fool? Or are you all clearly this clueless? Fuck. I’m sure you’re already aware that this is a busy time, but I am going to have to get the D.E.C. involved in this. This cannot remain going the way you’ve done it. I had thought that you had more care for your Guides, but clearly I was wrong."
