Since there was nothing he could do, Edmund stopped dwelling on it.
He gave Evelyn a sweet smile, but when no one was looking, he turned away and contacted Admiral Hawke.

Whatever Kate did, she could hide it from everyone except Catherine.
As soon as Catherine got the news, she went to Halcyon Hills Residence.
She found a doctor giving Oliver an IV. Adrian was sitting on the sofa, not looking well either.
She swallowed the questions she wanted to ask and walked over, placing a hand on his forehead.
"You have a fever too?"
Like father, like son.
The doctor, having finished with Oliver, heard her and came over. "Would you like me to take your temperature?"
Adrian refused. "No need."
He looked at Catherine, the corners of his eyes flushed from the fever. "What are you doing here?"
It was a rhetorical question.
But with the fever and his mind preoccupied with Isabel, Adrian's thoughts were moving slower than usual.
He couldn't be bothered to think.
Catherine didn't answer him. Instead, she told the doctor to give him an IV as well. "Stop pretending you're fine. You need to be healthy to get things done."
Adrian didn't refuse this time.
After the doctor had him hooked up to an IV, he gave Catherine a slight bow. "You two can talk. I'll be just outside if you need anything."
Once the doctor left the room, Catherine sat down next to Adrian and finally stated her reason for being there.
"You don't want to divorce Isabel, do you?"
Adrian didn't respond.
This younger brother of hers was hard to read. He was a genius who never listened to anyone's advice, including the Blackwells.
Adrian said, "You are my sister, yes, but you're also married with a son. A teenage son, not a child. Have you considered what your husband and son will think if you declare all-out war on Kate Caldwell and team up with me?"
His voice was cold and detached, piercing through the cruel reality. "Your husband played no small part in you reaching your current position. You'll be attacked from both sides."
Catherine was twelve years older than Adrian; she certainly understood the situation.
But what could she do? She just couldn't stomach the resentment.
"Moreover," Adrian continued coolly, "Harold died because of you."
Catherine's eyes instantly turned bloodshot. She clenched her fists, her whole body trembling. "I was trying to…"
She couldn't continue, and large tears began to fall.
Adrian didn't even glance at her. He was annoyed enough as it was.
Still, he pulled out a couple of tissues and handed them to her.
"The matter between Isabel and me doesn't require anyone else's involvement. I can handle it."
"As for what you want to do…" He paused. "If you insist on doing it, then you'll have to choose between yourself and your husband."
