Everyone has their type.
Adrian and Julian were two completely different kinds of men.
Since Isabel had liked Adrian in the past, even if she didn't anymore, she wouldn't fall for Julian.
Leaving it unsaid gave them both some space.
“Alright, you don’t have to say all that to me.” Julian was still smiling, but the smile didn’t reach his eyes. “No matter what you decide, I’ll support you.”
“Once you’ve handled it, get in touch with me.”
Isabel swallowed hard. “You get some rest. Don’t worry about me.”
“Okay. You be safe, too.”
“I will.”
After she hung up, Kate Caldwell handed him a plate of sliced apples.
Julian shook his head.
Kate could see the deep sadness in his eyes.

Isabel couldn’t stay out any longer.
She put her phone away, stuffed her hands in her pockets, and stood up to hail a cab.
By the time she returned to Evergreen Ridge Estate, her hands were still cold.
Her right hand would never be the same.
But she couldn’t afford to mistreat it any further.
In that short time, it had become incredibly stiff, and she immediately started first aid exercises.
The phone in her coat pocket rang again.
She wiped her hands dry before picking it up.
“Evelyn.”
“So, how did it go?”
Isabel collapsed onto the sofa. “It didn’t happen.”
Evelyn sighed. “You really can’t rush into marriage. Getting a divorce is so damn hard.”
“I can’t even come see you. That bastard did something, I don’t know what, but I’m basically on lockdown.”
Isabel found herself comforting her friend. “I’m fine, don’t worry.”
Isabel was about to go to sleep when she heard the sound of a key in the lock. She rushed to the door and blocked it. “Who is it?”
“It’s me.”
Adrian’s voice came from the other side. “I didn’t break anything. I used a key.”
Isabel didn’t care how he got a key, nor did she need to ask.
If he wanted one, he could get one.
“What are you doing here?”
“I came to see you.”
Isabel had no intention of opening the door. Adrian couldn’t turn the knob and knew she had engaged the deadbolt.
His voice softened. “Honey, open the door. I won’t force you to do anything.”
Isabel refused again. “I don’t want to see you.”
Adrian coughed a few times and leaned against the door. “Then I’ll have to call a locksmith.”
Isabel truly didn’t understand. This man used to be as cold as an iceberg, immune to all her warmth. How had he become so shameless and clingy now?
“What is wrong with you?”
