Ian possessed the same scholarly and gentle demeanor as Klein. Could it be that Willow was attracted to this quality in him? A sudden sense of crisis welled up inside Beasley.
Ian met Beasley’s gaze without flinching. Although this wasn't their first encounter, they had never formally introduced themselves, and it seemed neither had any intention of doing so now. However, Beasley had done a private background check on Ian and knew his family history, which only intensified his anxiety.
The only silver lining was that Willow didn't deliberately try to provoke him by serving Ian food or anything of the sort; she just ate her own breakfast quietly.
In the end, Beasley sat down where he was. He had indeed brought enough food for all three of them. But while Ian graciously ate what he offered, Willow stuck to the croissant Ian had brought. No matter how delicious the food was, it tasted like ash in his mouth.
"By the way, Willa," Ian said once she had nearly finished eating, "Mr. Sheffield was poisoned by a malicious injection of a hypnotic drug. Have you reported it to the police?"
Willow put down her utensils, the warm breakfast having settled her stomach. "Yes, I've already told Officer Chase. He said he'd bring a team to the hospital this morning to take my statement."
Ian nodded. "That's good."
Seeing them chatting so naturally, Beasley knew he couldn't stay silent. "The man who injected your father got on a plane to Myridia at nine o'clock last night."
He threw out a topic he knew would interest her. If he had known earlier, he could have caught the man upon landing. Unfortunately, the masked man's destination was Myridia, a short flight, and he had landed and vanished around 11 p.m. that same night.
Willow finally looked up at him, her tone pointed. "Mr. Windsor, your investigation is even faster than the police's. I wonder, will you be able to catch this person before they do?"
But was Beasley offering this "key" piece of information as a way to prove it was no longer important? He had surely cleaned up all loose ends before voluntarily revealing this to her.
"You can pass that information on to Ryan later," Ian said, then asked, "Who is this Zoe? What does she have to do with this?"
Willow snapped back to the present, thinking that Ryan had probably discovered this information as well. After all, he had already identified the man who drugged her father as Heller last night, which matched what Beasley had just told her.
"Zoe is one of my dad's students," Willow said, omitting the part about Zoe trying to drug her. She answered Ian's question vaguely to avoid worrying him.
Beasley's gaze shifted meaningfully between Willow and Ian. It seemed Willow wasn't planning on telling Ian about her own close call last night. What did that mean? It meant their relationship wasn't as intimate as he had feared. With that thought, Beasley's gloomy mood from the morning instantly brightened.
