Boss, Your Ex-Wife is Unreachable Now! novel Chapter 339

Ryan quickly masked the flicker of shock in his eyes and offered a smile that was hard to read. “He happens to have the next couple of days off, so I asked him to come to the hospital and ensure you and your father are safe.”

“...” Willow was at a loss, unsure how to respond to the awkward offer.

If she refused, what if Ryan was just joking?

But if she didn't, it would feel like she was tacitly accepting some kind of relationship with Waller…

Just as she was caught in this dilemma, her phone rang.

Seeing his chance, Ryan said quickly, “I’ll head back to the precinct then. Call me if you need anything.”

“Okay,” Willow nodded, glancing at the caller ID. It was Juliette Danton.

She walked over to the window to answer. “Hello, Lettie?”

At the name, Ryan, who had been about to turn, paused.

So it was that girl, Juliette.

He remembered her from their hike together and had a good impression of her. It didn't take him long to place the name.

But Ryan didn’t linger to eavesdrop. A faint smile touched his lips as he turned and left the room.

Hearing the door click shut, Willow glanced over her shoulder instinctively.

Juliette’s voice, tinged with a shy excitement, came through the phone. “Willa, Lionel Scott sent me a message first thing this morning asking me to go on a weekend getaway with him, just the two of us. What do you think? Should I say yes?”

Though Willow didn’t have much dating experience, she knew exactly what it meant when a man invited a woman on a private trip.

When two adults who are attracted to each other are alone, it’s hard to maintain restraint.

In other words, if Juliette accepted Lionel’s invitation, they would likely cross that final line.

After a moment of careful thought, Willow said, “You just need to ask yourself one thing: are you ready for that?”

Once she hung up, the world seemed to fall silent again.

Willow put her phone away and walked back to her father’s bedside, watching over him quietly. But as the minutes ticked by, a wave of exhaustion washed over her. She hadn't slept at all the night before and could no longer fight it. She asked the caregiver to watch her father while she rested for a bit on the spare cot.

The moment her head hit the pillow, she was fast asleep, sinking into a deep slumber.

When lunchtime arrived, the caregiver saw how peacefully she was sleeping and didn't have the heart to wake her.

Just then, Beasley arrived, carrying nutritious, chef-prepared meals.

The caregiver, whom Willow had personally selected that morning, recognized him from his earlier visit.

She wasn't sure how to address him.

As she was about to speak, Beasley raised a hand to stop her.

He pointed a long, well-defined finger toward Willow, silently instructing the caregiver not to make a sound and wake her.
