Breed Me Cursed Alpha (Lyra and Ronan) novel Chapter 49

Chapter 49

Lyra

The moment the words leave my mouth, the room freezes.

“What the fuck is going on here?”

The two figures turn toward me at once.

My heart drops straight through the floor.

Kyle.

Marcus.

For a split second I don’t understand what I’m seeing. My brain refuses to connect the open drawers, the forced safe, the scattered files with the two people standing in front of me.

My family.

My brother.

My father.

Kyle’s eyes widen, then narrow. Marcus’s face drains of color before hardening into something sharp and calculating.

“How the hell did you get into this office?” I demand, my voice shaking now.

Neither of them answers.

Kyle recovers first. He laughs, short and ugly. “Well, this is inconvenient.”

“Inconvenient?” I stare at him. “Kyle, what are you doing here?”

Kyle’s mouth twitches, like he’s debating whether to laugh or sigh. He chooses laughter. “Oh, Lyra. You always did have the worst timing.”

“Answer me.” My voice shakes. “Did he make you do this? Is Marcus blackmailing you? Is that why you’re here?”

Marcus’s eyes flick to Kyle, sharp. Kyle doesn’t look at him.

y think

“Blackmail?” Kyle repeats softly. “You really think that’s the only way I’d ever stand in a room like this without you?”

“Yes,” I say desperately. “Because I don’t want to believe you’re doing this on purpose.”

That finally gets to him. His smile fades, replaced by something colder. “That’s the problem with you. You

don’t want to believe anything that hurts.”

“You told me you were sorry,” I whisper. “You said you wanted to make things right.”

“And you believed it,” he says flatly. “God, you’re so easy.”

My chest feels like it’s being crushed. “Why?”

“I thought Ronan-”

“Ronan’s a fool,” Kyle cuts in. “A powerful one, sure, but still a fool. All that cursed blood, all that ego. Of course he wondered why Marcus would let me live long enough to crawl here. But he was too afraid to loose you to ever actvup on it.”

Tears blur my vision. “So this was always the plan.”

Kyle shrugs. “We had options. You were one of them.”

“You’re my brother,” I choke. “You’re supposed to protect me.”

“That was never my job,” he replies. “You were never meant to be protected. You were meant to be used.”

The words sink into me like poison.

“I thought…” My voice breaks. “I thought you hated what they did to me.”

“I loved it,” he says quietly. “You were weaker than me. Smaller. Always trying to disappear. And they punished you instead of me. That felt right.”

Something inside me screams.

“So when you pretended to care-”

“I was playing a part,” Kyle says. “You needed to trust me so you wouldn’t run. So you wouldn’t tell the pack. So you’d stay where we could reach you.”

Marcus shifts behind him. “Enough.”

Kyle doesn’t look back. “She deserves to hear it.”

“Did you ever feel anything for me?” I ask, barely breathing.

He tilts his head. “Pity, sometimes. Annoyance, mostly. And now?” His eyes sweep over me. “Now you’re just a liability.”

“A liability,” I repeat.

“Yes,” he says. “Because you think you matter.”

Silence swallows the room.

“And Ronan?” I whisper. “Are you betraying him too?”

Kyle’s smile returns. “He was always just another target.”

I feel something inside me finally break, clean and sharp. “You’re going to get him killed.”

“That’s the idea.”

My heart shatters, but beneath the pain, something else stirs.

Cold.

Clear.

Marcus steps slightly in front of him, like a shield. That alone feels like a knife in

“You weren’t supposed to be here,” Marcus says flatly.

Something cold slides down my spine. “What does that mean?”

chest.

Kyle exhales through his nose, annoyed. “It means you were supposed to be at the border with your precious Alpha King.”

My blood runs cold.

“The rogues,” I whisper.

“Yes,” Marcus says. “A distraction.”

The room tilts. “You set that up.”

Kyle grins. “Obviously.”

My chest tightens until it hurts. “I thought… I thought you were trying to change,” I say to Kyle. “You stood up for me. You looked at me like you cared. I thought you were finally being the brother I deserved.”

His expression snaps.

“God, you’re pathetic.”

The words hit harder than a slap.

“After

“You really believed that?” Kyle sneers. “After everything? After all the things I did to you? You thought I suddenly grew a conscience?”

Tears burn behind my eyes. “Why would you-”

“Because you’re useful,” he cuts in. “Because you’re stupid enough to want a family even when that family hates you.”

Marcus says nothing. He just watches me like I’m something diseased.

“You were never meant to be anything,” Kyle continues. “You were a breeder’s mistake. A disposable omega. And now you’re just a walking womb for Blackfang.”

They both laugh.

It isn’t loud. It isn’t wild.

It’s worse.

It’s calm.

It’s cruel.

Something inside me fractures.

“You used me,” I whisper.

Kyle shrugs. “We all did.”

My knees threaten to buckle, but I force myself to stay upright. My mind starts racing, snapping pieces together.

“The rogues… the border… Ronan leaving…”

Marcus nods slowly. “We needed him gone. And everyone else who could stop us.”

“And the office,” I breathe. “You needed access to his files. His wards. His security.”

Kyle’s grin widens. “Look at that. The little omega can think.”

Rage surges through me, white and hot. “What are you looking for?”

Marcus’s eyes flick to the safe. “Everything.”

Catalina stirs inside me.

Hard.

Fur ripples beneath my skin.

Kyle’s eyes widen. “What the hell-”

My hands twist, claws ripping through my fingertips as my body partially shifts without permission. Pain lances through me, but I don’t stop it.

The room smells suddenly of storm and power.

Marcus goes pale.

“That’s not possible,” he whispers.

Catalina roars in my blood.

It is possible.

Because I was never meant to be what they made me.

I was meant to be an Alpha heir.

Kyle takes a step back. “You’re not supposed to—”

I launch.

Not in a blur, not in blind panic, but with a clarity that slices through the fear like a blade. My body knows what to do before my mind catches up. Catalina surges forward, muscle and instinct braided into my bones, and the space between Kyle and me disappears in a heartbeat.

My shoulder slams into his chest.

The force of it lifts him off his feet and hurls him backward into the shelving behind him. Wood cracks. Paper explodes into the air. Kyle’s breath leaves him in a harsh, broken sound, but he doesn’t go down. He claws for balance, boots scraping as he tries to stay upright.

Marcus moves.

I feel him before I see him. A rush of air. A shadow at my side. Then pain as his fist tangles in my hair and yanks my head back. My neck screams in protest as he tries to drag me down to the floor.

“Snap her neck, dad!” Kyle shouts, scrambling forward.

I snarl.

Catalina takes the reins.

I twist with the pull instead of fighting it, letting Marcus’s grip become leverage. My elbow snaps back into his ribs, once, twice, until his breath whooshes out. His fingers loosen just enough for me to wrench free. I spin and drive my palm into his chest, slamming him hard into the wall.

Stone cracks beneath the impact.

Marcus grunts, stunned, but Kyle is already on me again.

We collide like two storms.

His hands close around my throat, fingers digging into the sensitive skin there. My vision sparks with white as he squeezes, his face inches from mine, twisted with fury and something ugly and triumphant.

“You should have died along with your mother,” he snarls.
