Bride behind the mask novel (Marguerite) novel Chapter 715

Two days later, the funeral was held as scheduled.

At the crack of dawn, the Winston family hurried to the cemetery to meet up with Robert and the others. Powell was recovering well; he no longer needed a wheelchair, although he walked with a slight limp. Jocelyn supported him throughout.

"Powell, we didn't even drop Lisette a line before heading out. Should you give her a call later?" Jocelyn asked.

Leaning on his cane, with Jocelyn at his side, Powell scoffed, "Since when do I need to report my every move to her? Forget about her; she went back to her parents' place."

"Back to her parents'? What about Maurice? Did he go with her?"

"Maurice is off on a business trip abroad. His flight was at 10 a.m."

Jocelyn nodded slightly, not prying further.

Marguerite, however, paused for a moment. She knew exactly why Maurice was traveling abroad and instinctively looked towards Frederick, asking in a hushed tone, "The funeral won't be over until noon. Will you be able to catch him?"

"It's not about speed but securing the upper hand. Hacking into the system won't be that easy for him. Don't worry."

Seeing Frederick so confident, Marguerite felt a bit relieved.

As they entered the venue, the funeral director was discussing the proceedings with Robert, while Miley was busy coordinating with the staff. The atmosphere was heavy and somber, with more and more people arriving to pay their respects. Yet, Yuna was nowhere to be seen.

Marguerite turned to Miley and asked, "Why haven't Yuna and Hackett shown up?"

Miley sighed softly, "Hackett just can't come to terms with my mother-in-law's passing. No matter what I say, he refuses to come. Yuna stayed back to keep him company."

Stayed back? What a joke!

Yuna was obviously feeling guilty about something! Maybe she feared that being at the cemetery would stir Penelope's spirit to haunt her! But how could she not come?

Abbey had just texted, saying the detectives were already in plain clothes, waiting in the parking lot. Everything was set, and Marguerite was determined to arrest Yuna right in front of Penelope, to give Penelope the justice she deserved!

Teresa woke up with her hair sticking out in all directions. But she couldn't bother with it; she tumbled out of bed, eager to grab her paintbrush and get back to her canvas.

She was nearing the final touches of her portrait. Last night, she had figured out the exact shape of her brother's nose and lips. Just a few strokes more, and she'd be done.

But the more she painted, the more something felt off, the more familiar it seemed. It was as if an answer was on the tip of her tongue, making her wide, grape-like eyes grow even wider. She painted faster and faster, growing more anxious by the second.

Five minutes later.

She finally put the brush down, staring at the little figure on the canvas, utterly baffled.

What was going on?

The brother she had drawn based on pictures of her dad and mom... looked exactly like Hayes!

Uncanny!
