Maggie's eyes widened in shock.
The underlying message from Alex, could it possibly mean he was planning to bring her some medicine?
Instinctively, Maggie wanted to decline, but then it dawned on her.
It was the middle of a workday, and someone of Alex’s stature must be swamped with work.
With so many people under him, he would probably send an assistant or a secretary, right?
After pondering for a moment, Maggie succinctly replied: "Either way works."
She felt more alert now, realizing that even though they were business partners, she probably didn't have the right to have his assistant deliver things to her.
Thus, she added: "Sorry, my mistake. Please don't mind it."
That should be sufficiently polite, right?
But to her surprise, he simply bypassed her explanation, saying: "It's not about 'either way works.' You can't just take any medicine; different symptoms require different treatments."
Maggie was truly at a loss. She had already declined politely, yet this man was not willing to let it go.
Fearing he might actually send someone, she kept mum about her symptoms, only replying with a: "Okay."
That should end the conversation, shouldn't it?
Yet, he followed up with: "Measure your temperature and tell me."
Maggie stared at the ellipsis, dumbfounded.
Was he at a loss for words with her?
But what did he have to be speechless about? If anyone, it should be her!
She didn't even have medicine at home, let alone a thermometer.
Could the man not have a bit of common sense?
Feeling slightly annoyed yet also realizing she had already signaled the end of the conversation and he still persisted, only added to her irritation.
Thus, Maggie decided to be more straightforward this time: "No need, going to sleep now."
Having said that, if he still couldn't understand, then he was definitely doing it on purpose.
As expected, right after Maggie sent her message, he responded without any hesitation with three words: "Got it."
Dreaming he was making her oatmeal for her sickness, holding her close, and feeding her medication.
Such a warm scene, wasn't it?
But dream Maggie was lucid, aware it was a dream, and knowing that upon waking, Frederick would be gone.
When she awoke, it was to the sound of chopping from the kitchen.
Groggily opening her eyes, she caught a whiff of a faint scent of bread baking from the kitchen.
Almost reflexively, she disregarded her own safety, grabbing the broom from her bedroom and rushing towards the kitchen.
But as she reached the doorway, she crashed into a soft wall.
Her body, already weak, nearly bounced back from the light impact.
Yet, that person quickly caught her waist, pulling her back in a swift motion.
Maggie, utterly unprepared, stared at the person’s scarred face in disbelief, blurting out:
"How did you get in here?"
