Bride behind the mask novel (Marguerite) novel Chapter 801

Silas Ward twirled the perfume bottle in his hand and asked, "Where'd you get this?"

Marguerite Lockwood was surprised. "Silas, didn't you even read our project proposal before investing in us? This perfume is from our new line, not even on the shelves yet."

"This is Polar Radiance?"

"Yep."

"Since I can't buy it, how about you give it to me?"

Marguerite hesitated. Wasn't it a bit odd for a man to ask a woman for something like this?

But rather than seeing Silas's request as overstepping, she replied, "If you can identify the middle and base notes of this perfume, it's yours."

Back when Frederick Winston lost his sense of smell, the only scent he could still detect was Polar Radiance. Not only that, he could accurately identify its top, middle, and base notes.

Marguerite knew she was clutching at straws again, but she just couldn't let it go. If Silas showed even a hint of Frederick's essence, she had to test it.

Silas chuckled at her. "Again with this?"

Was this woman addicted to games? Always looking for something childish to play?

"When it comes to perfume, I'm a total rookie. I couldn't tell you."

Marguerite teased, "And a rookie is investing in us?"

Silas grinned, "For the money. Your company's President Penelope reached out to us about exporting this perfume. Seems like a promising venture, so why not invest?"

"The President Penelope you're talking about is my mother. I created this perfume."

"Looks like I underestimated you. I thought you were just a junior staff member."

"Now you know?"

"I'm honored."

They didn't carry on further. Silas glanced at his watch, realizing it was time to pick up his daughter from school.

Her thoughts drifted back to her banter with Silas earlier, and her gaze fell on the beef stew he'd made—hearty and comforting.

She had to admit, Silas's presence filled a void in her life.

But she knew better than to read too much into it.

Because the uncanny resemblance between Silas and Frederick always sent her spiraling into overthinking.

Her longing for Frederick only intensified her feelings for Silas.

Today, she'd tested her theory head-on, and it was clear: Silas and Frederick were two different people.

It was time to wake up from her dream.

She moved to put away the leftover stew into the fridge, but as she lowered her eyes, she noticed Silas's bottle of painkillers left behind.

She paused, and just then, there was a knock at the door.
