Bride behind the mask novel (Marguerite) novel Chapter 804

"I've got painkillers! Get these into him, quick!"

Marguerite fumbled with the bottle, pulling out two tablets and rushing to Silas, but it was too late.

The pounding in his head had already taken its toll. Just as Marguerite and the others made a dash towards him, Silas had already slipped into unconsciousness.

Yet, even as his eyes fluttered shut, his gaze was fixed on Marguerite.

Violet's voice broke with desperation, "Marguerite, it's too late! Call 911! Hurry!"

Marguerite's hands shook as she dialed the emergency number, her voice steadying only as she gave the address.

Even as the paramedics loaded Silas onto the ambulance, she was in a daze, her feet itching to follow them inside. But she watched as Violet climbed in first, tears streaming down her face as she hovered by Silas's side.

Marguerite hesitated.

She stood there for what felt like an eternity, only snapping back to reality as the ambulance disappeared down the street.

The guests who'd come for the engagement party were ushered out by the butler, Maurice nowhere to be found.

Feeling a profound sense of loss, Marguerite sought out Penelope and Jocelyn, her face a mask of detachment.

"Mom, Jocelyn, let's head out too," she said quietly.

Jocelyn sighed, her eyes meeting Marguerite’s. "Marguerite, what’s the name of Violet's fiancé again?"

"Silas. Why?"

There was a watery concern in Jocelyn's eyes. "I don’t know why, but I’m worried about him. You think he’ll be alright?"

Penelope considered this, then looped her arm through Jocelyn's, steering her towards the parking lot. "If you're worried, we should drop by the hospital."

She was worried about Silas, yet she couldn't bring herself to see him.

She sat there for what seemed like hours until she saw Penelope and Jocelyn emerging from the building.

Marguerite hurried to meet them, anxiety bubbling up, "Mom, Jocelyn, how's Silas?"

Jocelyn exhaled, relieved. "Silas is alright, but Violet... she's not doing so well."

Marguerite blinked in confusion, "What happened? Is Violet sick too?"

Penelope shook her head, exchanging a glance with Jocelyn before looking back at Marguerite.

"No, it’s not that. When Silas woke up, he told Violet they should hold off on the wedding."
