Bride behind the mask novel (Marguerite) novel Chapter 824

Margot nodded, her face a mix of confusion and curiosity. "Yeah, why?"

"Thought I recognized you," the doctor replied with a warm smile. He rummaged through a drawer and handed Margot a manila envelope. "Your dad fainted a couple of days ago. We treated him here, but he left without taking his report. Can you give this to him and ask him to drop by when he gets a chance?"

"Dr. Smith, do you need to discuss my dad's condition?" Margot asked, her eyes wide with concern. "Maybe you could just tell me, and I’ll pass it on. He’s been really busy lately."

Dr. Smith gently tugged at one of Margot's pigtails, his tone light but evasive. "It's better if your dad comes in himself. It's a bit complicated, and I don’t think you’d understand."

Margot's childish demeanor vanished, replaced by an unexpected maturity. "Dr. Smith, I know more about Dad’s condition than anyone. When we were abroad, he fainted before, and I was the one handling things with the doctors. So, don't worry about keeping things from me!"

Marguerite watched the scene unfold, her heart aching. What had Margot been through?

At her age, she should be playing and enjoying life, not shuttling back and forth to hospitals, shouldering adult responsibilities.

Marguerite’s chest tightened with a familiar pain. She remembered the bitter past with Maurice, a conflict she’d kept from Teresa to protect her childhood happiness. No mother wants her child to bear burdens too heavy for their years.

Seeing Margot now, so composed and accepting, Marguerite felt a pang of sorrow.

Desperate for answers, she turned to the doctor. "Dr. Smith, there must be a reason for his headaches, right?"

The doctor looked troubled. "Mr. Ward’s case is unusual. He was brought in because of a severe headache that made him faint. But our tests didn’t find anything abnormal, just the toxins from the medication. All I can suggest is he avoids the painkillers."

How could he be in such pain and yet nothing shows up?

Holding Silas’s report, Marguerite took Margot’s hand as they left the office. She couldn’t help asking, "Margot, have you always been thorough with your dad’s check-ups for his headaches?"
