Chapter 15
David clenched his fists so tightly his knuckles turned white, bloodshot eyes misty with tears as he lost control, smashing his laptop onto the floor.
He kicked over the wine tower in a frenzy, shattered the large screen, grabbed documents scattered with broken glass, and crushed them in his hands. Blood stained the white papers, dripping onto the floor.
Suddenly, he laughed.
Laughed until tears streamed down his face.
“Lisa, you must hate me to death, don’t you?
You’d never forgive me… would you?”
“How could I be so arrogant to think I could hide things from you.”
David staggered backward, heart feeling like it was being sliced open by a blunt knife. Agony spread through his bloodstream, making him wish for death.
Nearby, Helen Gonzalez watched in stunned silence. The always composed David Green had completely lost his mind.
She dared not speak, even holding her breath, desperately wanting to flee.
Abruptly, David’s gaze locked onto her, making her flinch violently.
“David… Mr. Green.
Please don’t be sad. Lisa will come back. If she’s upset… I can leave.”
She forced out the words of comfort, her charming face full of terror.
David sneered coldly, closing the distance between them. “You’re not going anywhere. You’ll stay right here.”
Seeing him regain composure, Helen felt momentary relief–he still cared for her.
But his next words plunged her into an icy abyss.
“Once I uncover all your crimes, I’ll make you experience what’s worse than death.”
Murderous intent flashed across David’s usually gentle features as he ordered Helen dragged away.
Helen froze in terror, only finding her voice to plead when hauled from the banquet hall.
“David! I’m innocent-
“Mr. Green. We meet again rather soon.”
David narrowed his eyes, glaring at the retreating figure. “You know where my wife is.
She had you deliver those documents–you’re in contact!”
His voice trembled with urgency. “Where is she?”
“Mr. Green, legally you have no right to call her ‘wife.’ Morally, you don’t deserve to.”
The lawyer’s words stabbed David’s heart like blades. David drew a sharp breath. “What’s between my wife and me is none of your concern. Just tell me where she is.”
The lawyer walked out without responding. David chased after him, grabbing his shoulder to halt his departure.
Jacob shook him off with disgust, but David grabbed his collar again. “Last chance. Tell me where she is.”
“You don’t deserve to know.”
David threw a punch. Jacob retaliated without mercy, sending David stumbling backward. He slammed into the glass door.
His body shattered through the pane. Glass shards tore his forehead open while his suit jacket tore to shreds.
Blood streamed down his face, blinding him. Dizziness washed over him before darkness swallowed his vision. He collapsed unconscious.
