Having tanked the first hit, Riley felt the serpent’s raw power more than anyone.

The Ash Serpent coiled its body again.

Enraged by Riley’s previous axe strike, the black miasma clinging to its scales flared up, making its ash- grey hide look even more demonic.

Hundreds of apes were huddled inside, the entrances stacked with glowing blue crystals that turned the clearing into a pocket of artificial day.

Riley’s eyes flashed with realization. “These things are allergic to the glow!”

PineappleBeer blinked, then a grin spread across her face. “That explains why it’s hugging the shadows like a coward!”

The serpent was currently perched on a boulder at the very edge of the mist, its black aura at peak intensity.
