Chapter 227 The Market Fever

“Hehe, what do you think?”

Tart King rubbed her hands together sheepishly. “My class is Pastry Chef, so baking is and butter. But this kind of skillet cooking… I’m still a total amateur.

“I traded two big cakes to a player with a Farming specialization for the greens. The meat is from that beef you gave me. I figured we can’t just live on sugar; we need a balanced diet, so I tried my hand at these.

“I think I messed up the timing, though. The beef is a little overdone.”

TartKing scratched her head, looking at Riley with expectation.

Riley took a bite of the greens.

They were crisp, refreshing, and carried a perfect hint of garlic and a subtle sweetness.

“It’s good.”

Riley gave her highest praise. “Ten thousand times better than canned food. Pre-packaged rations can’t touch fresh-cooked meals.”

“Really?!”

TartKing’s eyes lit up instantly. “Then I’ll keep practicing! That survivor said she might be able to trade me radishes and potatoes later!”

“I actually have potato seeds here; I’ve got the natives planting them,” Riley replied. “Next time, see if you can trade her for other seeds.”

“I asked, but she seemed reluctant. I’ll keep trading with her; once we build some rapport, maybe she’ll cave. Her prices aren’t bad, so she doesn’t seem like the greedy type.”

“Rawr!”

Neeko couldn’t wait any longer. She preferred meat, but the green leaves looked surprisingly appetizing. She followed Riley’s lead, clumsily using a fork to shove some beef into her mouth before narrowing her eyes in bliss.

“So yummy! TartKing is the best!”

“Eat up, eat up!” TartKing beamed at the praise, looking like she wanted to dump both plates

directly into Neeko’s bowl.

“Where’s Pineapple Beer?”

Riley asked between bites. “Did you ping her?”

“I did, but she said she’s busy.”

TartKing sighed, showing the chat logs on her tablet to Riley. “Look, her icon is online, but her status says she’s in a Special Zone. Probably out exploring some ruins again.”

Riley took a quick look.

“Let her be.”

Riley wasn’t worried. As a regressor, Pineapple Beer had more survival experience than anyone, and her stats were nearly as high as Riley’s own. She was perfectly safe in the wastes.

Full and satisfied, the three people, the treant, and the gryphon huddled by the hearth to digest.

Riley habitually opened the Region Channel.

She arched an eyebrow as she scanned the chat.

The atmosphere in the channel was unnervingly festive.

Usually, this time of night was for complaining about the cold or begging for food. But today, the channel felt like a holiday celebration.

“MadLumberjack: Hahaha! I hit the jackpot! I sold 1,200 units of wood today and swapped it for a Rare blue-tier piece of gear with two special procs!”

“SnowyFlyer: Me too! Those whales buying wood have gone insane! The price nearly doubled! I cleared my entire inventory for some top-tier items.”

“HoardingPro: Sell now, boys! My inside sources say this is just a temporary spike. The big guilds are only buying wood to power-level their bases. Once they hit their goals, the price is going to crash back to zero!”

“FinanceMaster: Exactly! It’s called ‘Buy low, sell high’! Dump your wood and coal now while the price is high and swap for food and gear. When the price drops in a few days, buy it all back! It’s literal free money!”

Riley watched the posts with a sense of helplessness. The hype was real, everyone though they were geniuses playing the market, and some were clearly shills trying to fuel the fire
