“There’s nothing else down here. Should we head back up?” Pineapple Beer had grown tired of the repeating scenery.
“Sure. Let’s go back to the upper platform. If there’s nothing useful, we’ll leave. We already got plenty of magic crystals. It’s enough just seeing all this weird stuff,” Riley replied.
From what they could tell, this place was just an ancient ruin. Nightshade had most likely come here before. Since he’d made it out alive, the area was definitely safe.
Still, no one could be sure if his strange powers had originated from this underground space.
Maybe whatever power existed here had been a one-time use, completely drained by Nightshade long ago.
The three girls climbed back up the stone steps and returned to the altar platform.
The creepy feeling of being watched by thousands of stone eyes finally faded away.
“Let’s look for carved words or murals.”
Riley gestured toward the twelve white pillars and the central stone coffin.
“I’ve read exploration novels. Ruins like this always have murals or carvings that explain the civilization’s history.”
“Burger, you read those kinds of books too?” TartKing’s eyes lit up. She was thrilled to share a common hobby with her friend.
“I borrowed them from classmates back in high school. They were pretty fun,” Riley said casually.
“Let’s see if that logic holds up.” PineappleBeer had never read those novels, but she got straight to work.
She moved quickly and began searching the surrounding area.
The trio split up. PineappleBeer checked the outer pillars, TartKing examined the patterns carved into the ground, and Riley walked straight toward the massive stone coffin.
Less than two minutes passed before PineappleBeer called out.
“There are carvings on the back of this pillar!”
Riley and TartKing hurried over to take a look.

On the reverse side of the serpent-carved pillar lay a set of abstract murals with rough, wild lines. One had to look closely just to
make out the scene.
The mural showed countless humans kneeling on the ground, praying toward a massive black sphere floating in the sky. Violent snowstorms and erupting volcanoes surrounded them. The whole world looked like it was ending.
“Does this look like our current world?” TartKing whispered.
“Not exactly.” Riley shook her head.
“Look at their primitive animal-skin clothes and simple tools. This might be history from an ancient time, or even a past era.”

After finishing the first pillar, the girls moved between the other pillars to piece together the full story.
In the next scene, the black sphere cracked open. Thick black liquid oozed out from within it.

Any human or beast that touched the strange liquid mutated into half-human, half-monster creatures. These mutated beings grew taller and stronger, allowing them to survive the global disaster.
However, the survivors lost their humanity. They slowly turned into violent demons. They began hunting, capturing, and brutally killing regular humans.
The carvings were extremely graphic and bloody.
The artist had even carved detailed scenes of monsters tearing open human chests and ripping out hearts. The twisted faces and desperate eyes on the stone made people feel physically sick.
“Whoever carved this was messed up in the head.” TartKing covered her mouth uncomfortably.
“It’s probably just realistic.” PineappleBeer kept a calm tone, though her expression turned grim.
“Now we know where all those monster statues down below came from.”
The final set of pillars revealed the last part of the story.
A tall masked figure appeared, standing on a high platform. Thousands of mutated monsters lined up neatly like soldiers beneath him.
Countless humans were used as sacrifices at the foot of his throne. They were flayed and drained of blood before being thrown into the churning lava.
The sacrificial platform slowly rose higher with every offering.
“Live human sacrifices…”
Riley frowned deeply while staring at the brutal carving.
“Were they sacrificing lives to control the mutated beasts? Or to summon something darker?”
‘This looks like some creepy cult ritual.” PineappleBeer stroked her chin thoughtfully.
