This thing was tougher than the first–floor skeletons; every strike sent a jarring vibration up her arms.
“TartKing, now!”
Tart King, still tucked in the alcove, tossed out a small strawberry cupcake without hesitation.
After several relentless exchanges, the skeleton’s kneecap finally gave way with a sickening crunch. It collapsed forward, off–balance.
“Done.”
Riley seized the opening and drove an axe deep into its skull.
“Undead Guard defeated. +8 XP.”
“Eight XP?” Riley’s spirits lifted.
The first–floor skeletons had only given two. This was a serious step up–leveling here would be way faster.
TartKing popped her head out, grinning.
“I leveled! I’m Level 2 now!”
“Good. Next.”
Riley repeated the routine, pulling the second guard away from the pack.
They fell into a rhythm: Riley handled the aggro and dealt damage, while TartKing hung back, offering encouragement, tossing healing cupcakes when needed, and occasionally jabbing with her spear to distract any attempt to flank.
It was exhausting work. Riley had to pause between fights just to catch her breath. But with a steady supply of healing pastries, they managed to keep their health in the safe zone.
An hour later, the T–junction was littered with shattered bones and dented armor.
‘Level Progress: Lv.4 (95/100)”
Seeing her experience bar almost full, Riley felt the weariness from the last hour begin to fade–replaced by a steady, rising focus.
