TartKing sat down on a stone bench and quickly sorted through the loot she’d gotten from the chests earlier.
“Floor 16 chests are actually pretty good. Potions, shield cards, partial map fragments, tokens, scrolls…no insane top–tier drops, but everything’s super useful.”
Pineapple Beer leaned against the wall, resting with her eyes closed.
Riley’s gaze settled on the central portal.
That was the gate leading straight to Floor 17.
There was no countdown forcing them to move on.
Still, none of them planned to stay here for long.
Riley stowed her empty potion bottles.
“Ten minutes of rest.”
TartKing looked up at once. “Got it!”
Riley stared at her quietly.
TartKing pulled a small recovery dessert out of her backpack and split it into three pieces.
She handed one piece to Riley, one to Pineapple Beer, and kept the last for herself.
“Finish this and back to work.”
Pineapple Beer opened her eyes and glanced at her.
“You call diving into Floor 17 going to work?”
TartKing took a bite of the dessert, her voice muffled. “What else would you call it? Fight mobs, scout paths, open chests, hunt for maps, rush to the safe hall. This routine’s more fixed than a real job.”
Riley looked down at the pastry in her hand and smiled faintly.
Floor 16 had been full of scares, but nothing had spiraled out of control.
They’d proven their three–person squad strategy worked perfectly.
Never overstay in fights, never be greedy for resources, prioritize chests and maps, then head straight for the central hall once they had what they needed.
The floors ahead would only get harder.
But for now, they were still pushing forward.

Ten minutes later, Riley stood up.

Pineapple Beer’s eyes fluttered open, her Time–Severing Shadow Blade sliding back into place at her sleeve.
Tart King swallowed the last bite of her dessert and grabbed her staff.
The three of them walked toward the central portal in the hall.
The NPC running the potion stall glanced up at them, looking like he was watching three foolish
customers.
“Going down again?”
Riley didn’t turn back.
“Yeah.”
The NPC yawned lazily.
“Hope you guys come back with enough money to buy more potions. Might see you again soon, who knows.”
TartKing muttered under her breath, “That’s the most realistic blessing I’ve ever heard.”
Right before stepping into the light, Riley replied softly, “We will.”
Bright white light burst forth.
The three of them entered Floor 17.
When the light faded, TartKing hadn’t even finished screwing the cap back on the stamina potion she’d bought earlier. Her shoes touched a slick, wet stone surface the second she landed.
She stumbled and instinctively planted her staff on the ground to steady herself.
The moment the staff tip made contact with the stone cracks, a thin, sharp bone spur shot straight out.
“Back up.”
Riley’s warning rang out right beside her ear.
TartKing reacted instantly, stepping half a step backward, The bone spur grazed the edge of her staff as it jutted upward, its tip dripping bluish–black liquid that hissed and corroded the stone slab below.
Staring at the corrosive fluid, Tart King’s expression dropped at once.
“Toxic traps right at the spawn point? Seriously?”
Pineapple Beer darted a few steps forward along the wall, pressed a finger against the stone, and quickly backed off again.

“It’s not poison gas. It’s ground traps. Floor 17 is the Wet Bone Canal. The paths here are all deceptive.”
Riy looked down at their surroundings.
They’d landed in an abandoned water canal. Tall stone walls rose half a person’s height on both sides, covered in damp dark moss. Shallow murky water pooled across the entire pathway, too cloudy to see what dangers hid underneath.
Distant running water echoed through the area, coming in broken waves.
Some sounds were clearly flowing water, while others sounded like dry bones scraping against each other.
Riley gripped her Storm Splitter Dual Axes firmly and crushed the newly grown bone spur under her foot.
The shattered bone crumbled into gray dust in seconds.
“We can’t rush through this floor.”
Pineapple Beer nodded. “I’ll scout ahead, but only short segments at a time. Everyone stays sharp.”
TartKing stowed her staff and pulled a short–handled hammer out of her backpack instead.
