Chapter 674 Sudden Irritability
PineappleBeer didn’t even seem to notice she’d blurted out another definite answer. She kept her gaze fixed forward.
“Don’t linger near the edges.”
TartKing’s lips parted. She wanted to ask how she knew that, but she held her tongue in the end.
Riley didn’t ask either.
The crack gradually widened as they went deeper.

The rough natural rock under their feet gave way to half–ruined man–made steps. The stonework was ancient and worn, its edges blown apart by explosions. Some bricks hovered mid–air, while others had settled back into place. Riley tested one solid–looking step, making sure it wouldn’t collapse before gesturing for the other two to follow.
Further in, more and more frozen objects littered the area.
A sheet of flame clung to the right wall, frozen mid–swirl, yet its edges trembled faintly. Beneath the fire, a monster’s claw was buried in the ground, and tiny dirt grains drifted slowly out from under its talons, moving at a speed the naked eye could just barely
catch.
TartKing stuck close right behind Riley.
The glowing orb on her staff stretched and shrank repeatedly, tugged by faint gusts of wind.
“There’s wind in here now.”
No sooner had she spoken than a wave of hot air rushed out from the depths of the crack.
The wind came out of nowhere.
The frozen flames outside flickered violently. Dozens of floating metal shards suddenly sped up, shooting straight toward the three
of them.
Riley shoved TartKing and PineappleBeer back against the rock wall in one quick motion, raising her Storm Splitter Dual Axes in front of her body.
“Get down!”
TartKing dropped into a squat instantly.
PineappleBeer’s movements lagged half a beat behind.
A sharp metal fragment zipped past her cheek, slicing off a few strands of her hair.
Riley reached out, grabbed the back of her neck, and forced her down low.
The shards slammed into the wall behind them, ringing out with a string of soft clangs.
TartKing’s head shot up immediately. “Pine, you okay?”
PineappleBeer touched her cheek.

No blood.
But when she looked up at Riley, her expression turned faintly irritable out of nowhere.
“Don’t touch me.”
Riley’s hand was still curled around the back of her neck.
She let go the second she heard the tone.
TartKing froze in shock.
PineappleBeer froze too.
own–mouth.
She frowned, like she couldn’t believe those words had come from her own mouth.
“I didn’t mean-”
Riley pulled her hand back completely.
“It’s fine. Keep going.”
She didn’t push the issue..
PineappleBeer hung her head and pressed her fingers to her temples.
This headache was short–lived.
It felt like a thin needle stabbing into her temple, then pulling right back out.
Once the pain faded, the silver–gray light in her eyes resurfaced, and her whole aura turned colder and sharper.
“Go right.”
She pointed at the fork up ahead.
The single crack split into two paths.
The left path was wider, with a smooth stone corridor lined with several fallen metal lamps. The right path was narrow and jagged, with cracks snaking across the ground and a faint dark red glow seeping up from below.
TartKing glanced at the right path and couldn’t hold back her worry.
“Pine, are you sure? That side looks like it’ll roast us alive.”
PineappleBeer’s tone turned urgent.
“We can’t take the left.”
“Why not?”
“It’s gonna collapse.”
She finished speaking and started walking straight toward the right path.

Riley taught her wrist in one swift grip.
“Wait. I’ll go first to check it out.”
PineappleBeer glanced back, unable to fully mask her impatience.
“We don’t have time.”
“We have enough.”
“The left side’s going down any second. The shockwave will take this whole section with it. You’re moving too slowly.”
Her words came fast and sharp, leaving no room for argument.
TartKing softened her tone, trying to calm her down.
“Pine, it’s not that we’re refusing to go. Riley just needs to scout ahead first. What if we fall?”
PineappleBeer’s brows furrowed, clearly growing frustrated.
“We won’t. I know exactly where to step.”

Riley stared at her for two full seconds, then released her wrist. She brought her dual axes up horizontally across the narrow right path.
“Tell me the exact spots to step on.”
PineappleBeer pointed forward quickly.
“First dark stone tile, next to the crack line for the second step, then the right–side ledge for the third. Stay off the glowing red spots.”
Riley followed her directions precisely.
Her first step landed steady and firm.
