A shockwave exploded out from under their feet.
All three shield bearers stumbled at the same time.

Riley charged straight for the leftmost shield user. Instead of hacking at the shield itself with her Storm Splitter Dual Axes, she targeted the silver lines anchoring the shield to the stone ground.
Her Star–Breaker Gauntlets flared to life.
The axe blades sliced cleanly through the silver bindings, dimming the closed–eye rune patterns on the shields by half in an instant.
The shield bearer’s face dropped in alarm.
TartKing rushed over with her greatsword and swiped it sideways, shoving the lopsided shield further off balance.
Riley slipped through the newly opened gap, twisting her right axe downward to slash at the second shield bearer’s wrist.
The third shield bearer moved to cover his teammate’s spot, but the stone tiles under his feet flipped upward out of nowhere.
The silver lines Riley had cut earlier messed with the shield’s trap connection. Freed from suppression, the tile jutted sharply upward and slammed right into his knee.
The man grunted and dropped to one knee.
Riley didn’t slow down for a second.
The two of them forced their way through the three–man shield wall, just as enemy mage skills came screaming toward their backs.
TartKing spun around and tossed out a Silver Line Severance Talisman.
The talisman cut through one incoming black binding tether. She swatted an ice spear off course with her greatsword, but a stray wind blade grazed her shoulder, slicing straight through her clothes and skin.
Blood welled up instantly from the fresh wound.

Her face paled from the sharp pain, yet she prioritized healing Riley first without hesitation.
Riley pressed a hand firmly to her shoulder, shoved a high–grade recovery potion into her hand, and quickly wrapped a bandage around the gash.
TartKing bit open the potion bottle and chugged it down.
The medicine numbed the wound and stabilized her health. She wasted no time hurrying to catch up with Riley.
They were getting closer and closer to the center of the platform.
But Pineapple Beer’s state was growing more and more unstable.
One second, she was cold, ruthless, every dagger strike packed with killing intent.
The next, the black sword man’s words froze her mid–attack. “You never listened back then either.” Pain flashed across her features, like the line had genuinely cut deep.
Riley’s chest tightened with worry.
Pineapple Beer was more than strong enough to fight off three or four enemies at once.
But every time she hesitated, she left a critical opening.
The leader of the reddish–brown heavy armor squad lifted his giant hammer and smashed it toward her unguarded back.
TartKing was still too far away. Panicked, she hurled a small fireball.
The fireball hit the side of the hammer, failing to block the strike entirely but tilting its trajectory just enough.
The brute force wind from the hammer grazed Pineapple Beer’s shoulder, slamming her hard against the throne steps.
Riley sprinted forward, swinging her dual axes straight at the heavy armor leader.
The man spun around and blocked with his hammer.
A brutal collision rang out between axe and hammer.
The impact jarred Riley’s palms violently.
Only the stabilizing effect of her Star–Breaker Gauntlets kept her from losing her grip on the

The heavy armor leader glanced down at her.
“You here for the artifact too?”
Riley braced her axe firmly and replied in a cold, steady tone, “I’m here for her.”
The man clearly didn’t understand, and didn’t care to.
He lifted his hammer and struck again.
Riley avoided a head–on clash. She slid sideways along the steps, slashing her axe at the man’s knee armor.
His leg plating was ridiculously thick. The axe only left a faint white scratch on the surface.
TartKing darted out from behind Riley and slammed her greatsword down on the exact same
spot.
Boom!
A small crack split the knee armor open.
The heavy armor leader finally stumbled back.
Seizing the opening, Riley and TartKing charged up the steps and landed right beside Pineapple Beer.
PineappleBeer was kneeling halfway on the stone throne steps, the crystal still hovering steadily above her palm.
She lifted her head to look at them.
Her face was drained of all color, yet her eyes held a tangled mess of emotions.
“You guys…”
She stared at Riley, then shifted her gaze to TartKing.
TartKing’s eyes burned red with urgency and frustration.
“We’re here to take you back home!”
PineappleBeer froze for a brief moment.

“Are you?”
Riley reached out her hand toward her.
Pineapple Beer didn’t move right away.

Not waiting for her to make up her mind, Riley grabbed her wrist firmly and pulled her upright off the steps.
As PineappleBeer steadied her footing, a flash of clear awareness flickered in her eyes.
“Ri… ley?”
TartKing nearly rushed forward in excitement.
