TartKing’s arms went numb, and she nearly dropped to her knees. Gritting her teeth, she quickly switched back to her staff. Her Radiant Prayer Crown lit up. She healed Riley first, then herself, before trying to land a heal on Pineapple Beer.

The healing light touched Pineapple Beer, but half of it got swallowed up by the chaotic glow covering the crystal’s surface.

The remaining half barely managed to stem the steady stream of blood spilling from her hips.

Pineapple Beer never looked back.

She sprinted upward along the cracks in the beast’s bone armor. She moved so fast that all Riley could see was a blurry silvergray afterimage.

The crystal’s power let her keep up with the monster’s speed for a short time.

But every single use made her body grow a little more transparent.

The vortex overhead also tightened its pull.

Riley spotted a thin silvergray thread behind Pineapple Beer, stretching all the way up to the swirling vortex in the sky.

That thread was slowly pulling taut.

PineappleBeer, stop using the crystal!

PineappleBeer flipped down from the beast’s shoulder and sliced through a protruding bone spike with her dagger.

Run now! I can’t hold it back much longer!

The Time Wraith StarEater Beast began gathering starlight in its mouth once again.

Once more, its target was solely PineappleBeer.

Riley charged forward and tossed out a Silver Line Severing Talisman.

The talisman blade nicked the front of the starlight beam, but only left a tiny scratch before g swallowed entirely.

Tartking hurled fireballs and clearance talismans too.

The fireballs burst apart like they’d hit deep water.

Riley pushed her remaining stamina to the limit. She activated Silent Sprint and charged forward,

rowing herself directly in the starlight’s path.

Her Earthen Ward flared to life again.

Her Cloak of Vitality’s shield recovered a sliver of power and expanded to guard her.

Tart King dumped almost every heal she had on Riley.

The starlight beam crashed down.

Riley crossed her dual axes to block it.

Boom!

The impact smashed her down to one knee.

Her right arm still worked, but her left arm went halfnumb. Her Crimson Scale HeartLock Underarmor burned hot. It felt like something heavy had slammed straight into her chest, cutting off her breath for an

instant.

Her health plummeted sharply.

TartKing’s heals rushed in just in time, yanking her back from critical health.

Burger!

Riley coughed up a mouthful of blood and pushed herself up using her axe handles.

TartKing quickly swapped weapons again, drawing her greatsword and stepping in front of Riley to shield

her.

She turned her gaze back to Pineapple Beer.

Pineapple Beer stood a short distance away, fingers clamped tight around the crystal, her eyes dark and cold.

The spacetime vortex above spun faster and faster.

The platform’s edges started crumbling. Stone tables and benches got swept up into the air. Several stone tablets behind the throne snapped apart and flew straight toward the vortex.

Any surviving runner that brushed the vortex’s edge got pulled into random fragmented scenes vanished into unfamiliar snowfields, some got dragged into dark tunnels, and others were torna floating light specks.

A broken stone slab covered GreenPear’s body, leaving only half of her fractured staff sticking out from

Tubble.

Pineapple Beer glanced at them.

She didn’t linger long.

All those people from her past livesall the betrayals, schemes, ambushes and exploitationfelt distant now, pulled away by the vortex. All those messy memories no longer mattered.

No matter what history she shared with them, she’d already seen the truth.

They’d only ever wanted to use her life to break the seal. She was nothing but a tool for them to get thei hands on the artifact.

Pineapple Beer’s gaze shifted to Riley and TartKing.

This time, she stared for a long, long while.

I remember now.

TartKing froze up.

Remember what?

I remember a little bit of everything.PineappleBeer spoke softly.

She remembered their journey together, all their time in the snowfields, so many small moments.

These memories weren’t harsh and blinding like her pastlife fragments. They were warm.

Like the first campfire they’d lit on the snowy night.

PineappleBeer smiled faintly.

Don’t cry, Tart.

TartKing swiped at her face roughly.

I’m not crying!

Yeah. You’re not crying.”

Quit talking to me like I’m a kid!
