She hadn’t held out any hope of looting the bodies. Back when she used to grind on ordinary monsters, all they ever dropped were scraps of cloth and chunks of spoiled meat.
“Neeko, check them quickly–see if there’s anything worth taking.”
The girl and the bear began clearing the battlefield.
Just as she expected.
“Obta ned: Rotten Eyeball x1
“Obtained: Splintered Wooden Club x1
“Obtained: Torn Ragcloth x5”
Complete junk.
Riley went through more than seventy corpses and didn’t find a single white–tier item drop.
“Figures,” she muttered under her breath.
With a sigh, she moved toward the last monster–a massive enhanced ghoul, likely the mini–boss of this wave.
“C’mon, even a piece of meat would be something.”
Casually, she used the edge of her axe to flip over the creature’s tattered leather armor.
Then, a different kind of glint caught her eye.
Riley froze.
She rubbed her eyes, wondering if her goggles were just reflecting light weirdly.
There, amid the pile of rotting flesh, a translucent card drifted slowly upward.
“Found: Special Item–Waypoint Teleportation Card”
Riley couldn’t help it–she swore softly in her native tongue.
How was this even possible?
She’d pulled a special item off a ghoul?
Was this what they called “beginner’s luck finally paying off“? Or had this thing been some one–in–a–million rare elite spawn?
Carefully, she picked up the card.
It was cool to the touch, engraved with intricate, faintly glowing runes.
“Item: Waypoint Teleportation Card

“Function
“Set Destination: Choose a location to mark for teleportation
“Mark Location: Designate your current position as an Anchor Point. (Your Level 4 camp is marked by default.)
“Teleport: From almost anywhere (excluding certain restricted zones), activate to instantly return to your Anchor Point
“Return Trip: Within 24 hours after teleporting to the Anchor, you may activate the card again to travel back to your original location
“Cooldown: 72 hours
“Description: A traveler’s best friend, a lifesaver in a pinch, and the fastest way home when you’re running late for dinner.”
“A two–way teleport scroll…” Riley whispered, curling her fingers tightly around the card. The strategic value of this was enormous.
It meant that no matter how far she ventured out in the future, getting back was never going to be an issue. Run into something you can’t handle? Just warp out. Inventory full after a big haul? Teleport straight home, unload, then jump right back to keep looting.
Riley stored the card carefully in her inventory.
Tonight hadn’t just leveled her up–it had handed her a seriously useful tool.
“Neeko! Let’s head back! Extra rations tonight!”
She waved the bear over, a grin spreading across her face.

Back at the camp, she secured the heavy gate and stripped off her bloodstained, frost–caked gear.
Riley made a beeline for the bathroom–newly relocated right next to the main cabin.
“Whoosh-”
The shower head unleashed a stream of steaming hot water, fogging up the small room in seconds.
Riley stood under the spray, eyes closed, letting the heat soak into her skin.
It felt incredible.
After two hours of fighting in below–freezing weather, the cold had settled deep in her bones. Now, the hot water seemed to wash straight through her, warming her from the inside out.
She stayed under the water for a good twenty minutes, until her skin was flushed pink, before finally turning it off.
Wrapped in a thick bath towel, bare feet padding across the warm wooden floor, she pushed open the door into the living room.
A wave of dry, fireplace warmth washed over her.
The logs crackled gently in the hearth, casting flickering light across the room.
“Meow.”

Neeko–who’d already rinsed off in stone form at the utility sink was back in her small white cat form, sprawled belly up on the rug in front of the fireplace, looking utterly content.
Riley walked over and dropped onto the soft, cushioned couch.
“Aahhh…”
Her body felt like it was melting into the cushions.
Her hair was still damp, dripping slightly onto her shoulders.
No har dryer–that was pretty much the only inconvenience at the moment. She had electricity, but without a blueprint, she couldn’t craft one.
Grabbing a dry towel from the rack, Riley loosely draped it over her hair and leaned back against the couch, gaze fixed on the dancing flames.
This kind of comfort almost made her want to cry.
Noticing Riley settled, Neeko hopped up onto the sofa, burrowed under the wool blanket draped over Riley’s legs, and poked just her head out, watching with curious eyes as Riley towel–dried her hair.
The little cat lifted a paw and scratched behind her own ear a couple times, almost like she was imitating the motion.
Riley chuckled and gently booped Neeko’s forehead, then reached for the tablet on the coffee table.
Girl and cat curled up together on the couch, watching random videos into the night.
Every so often, the only sounds were the rustle of movement, the soft crackle from the fireplace, and the quiet hum of the wind
outside.
Slowly, her hair dried, leaving behind the faint, clean scent of lemon from her shampoo.
Riley’s eyelids grew heavy.
“Time to turn in,” she murmured.
She switched off the tablet and draped the still–damp towel over the back of a nearby chair.
