He raised his hand and clamped down on Zane's wrist. "Isn't my wife's words clear enough?"
Zane was irritated and snarled. "Jonathan, are you still my friend?"
Hearing their argument escalate, Anneliese turned around with a worried look on her face.
However, Jonathan gave her a reassuring look and said gently, "I'll handle this. You should go and get some rest."
She glanced at Zane once more.
She didn't want to get entangled with him any further since there was no way she would tell him where Jessica had gone. She trusted that Jonathan would keep his word and wouldn't reveal anything to Zane either.
Then, she nodded and turned to go upstairs.
Only then did Jonathan release Zane. He walked over to the bar, poured Zane a glass of wine, and slid it across the counter before speaking, "We are friends, but please don't make things hard for me either."
Zane drank it in one gulp before slamming it heavily back onto the counter. "That's easy for you to say. It's not your woman who went missing!"
Hearing his words, Jonathan smiled slightly and said, "I love and care for my wife. She also does the same to me. Hence, how could she ever disappear?"
"F*ck you!" Zane couldn't help but curse under his breath. "Stop being a pain in the *ss now, Jonathan!"
Jonathan calmly poured himself a glass and topped up Zane's glass as well.
Then, he clinked his glass against the latter and commented, "She is already gone. Isn't it obvious as to what she is implying? Plus, you weren't there when she needed you."
The only thing Jonathan could do now was drink a few more glasses with Zane. After all, he didn't want Zane to get Jessica back only for his own wife to run off instead.
Jessica was a fiery woman.
