“Morgan Blackwood.”

Hanley’s fingers tensed, his eyes filled with doubt. “Morgan?”

“After what we did to him, will he really help us?”

His voice was hesitant, clearly lacking confidence.

Gennifer narrowed her eyes, an enigmatic look on her face. “Help?”

She scoffed. “Morgan isn't some saint who suddenly does good deeds. At best, it would be a partnership. And as long as we have something he needs, he'll consider it.”

The fog of uncertainty in Hanley’s eyes hadn't fully cleared.

Gennifer continued slowly, “Although Cassian currently rules Quinborough, Morgan is incredibly ambitious. Ever since he stole secrets from Veyne & Co. a year ago, he’s been steadily building up The Blackwood Group. Now, he’s practically the only other major player in Quinborough besides Cassian. He’s the only one I can think of.”

She turned to Hanley. “Dad, Morgan claims to love Ruby, but when it comes to a choice between Ruby and his own interests, he never hesitates to pick his interests. This ruthless nature, while cold, actually makes him easier for us to deal with.”

Hanley listened and nodded along. “True, that Blackwood kid is cut from a different cloth—cold-hearted and purely profit-driven. But if what you're saying is true, what do we have that could possibly attract him?”

He still looked hesitant, but Gennifer smiled. “We don’t have anything, but Ruby does.”

Her gaze settled on Hanley, her expression shifting from calm to sharp. “As soon as we leak the news that the Steele family has chosen Ruby as their heir, Morgan won't be able to sit still. All we have to do is reveal some of our plan to him and sincerely invite him to partner with us. He won’t refuse.”

Hanley’s eyes lit up as if a light had been switched on in his mind.

“Yes.”

He clapped his hands excitedly.

“If Morgan gets involved, everything becomes much easier…”

Hanley's thoughts began to race as he plotted. The Steele family was a renowned powerhouse even in The Capital. Even if they had to share a piece of the pie with Morgan, they would still gain wealth beyond their wildest dreams.

“Gennifer, when will you contact him? How about right now!”

Hanley excitedly grabbed Gennifer's wrist.

Gennifer immediately agreed. “Okay.”

She tried calling Morgan right away, but after several attempts with no answer, she started to look awkward. Hanley, however, remained glued to her phone screen.

Just as Gennifer was about to give up and go to The Blackwood Group in person, the call finally connected.

“Gennifer, are you looking to die?”

A dark voice laced with a chilling murderous intent came from the other end.

Gennifer’s fingers trembled as she held the phone.

“Gennifer, you have no credibility with me. If you dare to trick me, you know what I’m capable of.”

He gritted his teeth, his tone a clear warning.

If it hadn't been for Gennifer throwing him under the bus to get on Ruby’s good side, The Blackwood Group wouldn’t have hit such a rough patch recently.

He had been swamped at the company, even having to personally negotiate deals with various small and medium-sized enterprises.

The fact that he was even willing to take her call was a favor in itself.

“I’m absolutely not lying to you.”

Gennifer sounded utterly convinced.

The line went silent for a moment.

“Top Floor Cafe.”

Morgan stated his terms and hung up.

Gennifer and Hanley looked at each other, both letting out a sigh of relief.
