The man screamed, "But you're completely fine!"
Natalie scoffed. "So because I survived, I should just let you off the hook?"
"Yes! If you leave me down here to die because you're perfectly fine, I swear to God, if I make it out, I will end you!"
Natalie's temper flared. "Then you can rot at the bottom of the river."
Panic seized him. "No, no, wait! I didn't mean that! The cold is messing with my brain! Please, just get me out of here, the water is rising!"
Raw terror laced his voice.
Watching the dark water inch higher, he began to violently tremble.
He had taken this job for a quick payout, not to end up in a watery grave.
Seeing that he was still holding onto his secrets even at death's door, Natalie lost what little patience she had left. She had already called 911. Whether he survived the night was entirely up to fate.
As she turned to walk away, sheer panic shattered the man's resolve.
"No, no, no! Please, don't leave! Pull me up! If you leave me here to die, this isn't over! I'll come back and finish the job!"
Tears of desperation streamed down his face. This was a nightmare. This woman was utterly heartless—walking away without a second thought.
Natalie paused and glanced back over her shoulder. "Keep your mouth shut if you want. I have my own ways of finding out."
The man wanted to scream in frustration. This woman was insanely bold. Who else would stand on a freezing bridge and casually negotiate with an assassin?
"Aaaagh! The water's pouring in! Help! Get me out of here!" he shrieked in agony.
Natalie asked one last time, "I'm giving you one final chance. Are you going to talk or not?"
Standing in the biting wind, Natalie's cheeks were flushed from the cold.
"Hmph! Save you? Keep dreaming. I'm not lifting a finger."
The man was absolutely livid. "Lady, you're out of your mind! I just gave you the truth, why aren't you helping me?"
Natalie looked down at him with a dark smirk. "Why on earth would I save a hitman? Especially one who accepted such an insultingly low price for my head. Two hundred grand? The client really thought they were a big shot."
"Damn." The man finally realized why she was so furious. "Listen to me! I just took the two hundred grand! I didn't set the price! It has nothing to do with me! Pull me up, and I'll tell you another secret!"
Natalie knew better. A low-tier thug hired for two hundred grand wouldn't have any real leverage.
She arched an eyebrow and offered a mocking smile. "Enjoy your swim. I'm out of here."
