Joanna's chest ached terribly, a physical pain that radiated through her entire body.
She had truly been blinded by greed, ruining a perfect hand of cards.
If she had just used Wendy and Sebastian's power to climb the ladder, everything would have been so much easier.
She had been wrong. Because of her obsession with her biological relatives, she had made a catastrophic mistake.
She had hurt the mother who loved her most in this world, and the brothers who had genuinely cared for her.
Now, everyone who had ever loved her was gone.
No one willingly stayed around to be hurt, and no one could love someone with such a vicious, treacherous heart.
She had known all of this, yet she had stubbornly charged forward until there was no turning back.
But a person who had been kneeling in the dirt for too long would eventually wake up.
When Joanna looked through her tears toward where Natalie had been standing, she realized Natalie and Marshall were already gone.
She hadn't even noticed when they left.
The driver cast a sympathetic glance at her and asked softly, "Miss, should we head back?"
Joanna gave a slight nod. "Let's go."
Her voice was hollow and defeated.
Was she truly destined to lose this spectacularly for the rest of her life?
All her previous confidence had been fueled by Sebastian and Wendy. It was the absolute pampering from her four brothers that had given her the audacity to torment Natalie in the first place.
Joanna blinked, staring up at the hazy sky as a fine drizzle began to fall.
She tilted her face up, letting the freezing rain hit her skin in a stinging, icy shower.
Confused, he asked, "Natalie, we just saw Joanna at her absolute lowest. There's no way her project is getting developed now. Why aren't you happy?"
Natalie truly wasn't happy. If she had a choice, she would have vastly preferred a quiet, peaceful life over this endless cycle of scheming and deceit.
She forced a smile. "Marshall, she's incredibly capable. Who knows? By tomorrow morning, we might wake up to see a fully revived Joanna who has somehow managed to fix everything flawlessly."
Marshall was speechless.
How was Joanna like a cockroach? She just won't stay down.
Marshall had a strong survival instinct, and when it came to Joanna, he knew better than to let his guard down for even a second.
He immediately called his assistant, ordering his men to keep a close eye on Joanna's every move. The second she tried anything, he would be ready.
Natalie pulled herself together. The events were already in motion, and there was no running from them. Her phone buzzed, and she saw a text from Mrs. Wilson.
Her mood instantly brightened. She looked at Marshall. "Well, I'm suddenly in a great mood. Come on, let's go watch the next show."
