She pulled him into her arms, gently slapping his cheek.
"Nathan, wake up! You can't die on me! Joanna just wants a family. As long as we love each other, she won't turn her back on us!"
"Nathan, you have to pull yourself together. Joanna lost everything because of her obsession with giving us a life."
But Nathan remained completely unresponsive. His eyes were clamped shut, and a white foam began to bubble at the corners of his mouth.
Terrified, Sophia shrieked, "Nathan, you can't leave me, please don't let anything happen to you!"
"Joanna bet her life on us, she bet everything on us, and we made her lose. Nathan, Joanna's life has been hard enough. We can't make it any harder for her."
In that agonizing moment, Sophia finally grasped the devastating price of greed. The consequence of wanting too much was ending up with absolutely nothing.
Greed was basic human nature, but she had reached too far, and it had stripped her down to nothing.
Watching them, Natalie eventually took pity and called an ambulance.
She didn't feel any triumphant joy watching this miserable display.
If she had a choice, she would have preferred to never cross paths with these toxic people in her lifetime.
Natalie's gaze drifted to the windowsill in Nathan's office. A cluster of unfamiliar flowers bloomed there, vibrant and beautiful.
The gorgeous petals crowded together in a stunning display of color.
She took a deep breath, pushing down the restless irritation in her chest.
She glanced back at Marshall. "Marshall, the show's over. Let's go home."
Marshall was still reeling from the shock. Natalie wasn't Nathan's biological daughter.
Marshall openly admitted, "Natalie, I'm absolutely floored. How can you not be his biological daughter?"
Natalie chuckled. "Isn't it a relief that I'm not Mr. Scott's daughter? There were so many sleepless nights where I prayed to anyone listening that he wasn't my real father."
"What biological father could ever be so vicious? Maybe God actually heard my prayers and took pity on me. That man really isn't my father."
"I have absolutely no blood ties to Joanna. You have no idea how thrilled I am. I literally wake up smiling just thinking about it."
Marshall's heart ached for her. She couldn't choose where she came from, but she could definitely change where she was going.
"Natalie, you're absolutely right. You couldn't change your origins, but you used your own strength to rewrite your destiny. Look at you now. You're living proof that karma exists."
Marshall offered a stunning smile, a bright light shining in his striking eyes.
Natalie flashed a radiant grin in return. "Come on, it's dinner time. My treat."
