“I've eaten, Natalie. Are you okay?” His voice was tinged with caution.
“I'm fine. I'm having dinner. Just focus on your classes.”
Caleb replied, “Okay! I'm relieved you're all right.”
“Yeah, don't worry. No one can bully me.”
Natalie chatted happily with Caleb for a few more moments before hanging up.
Sebastian put down his utensils. Watching her smiling face, he frowned and asked, “He's that concerned about you?”
“What? Am I not allowed to have people who care about me?” Her gaze was cold.
When Sebastian met her cold, distant gaze, he felt a sharp sting in his heart, a prickling pain.
“That's not what I meant…”
“Sebastian, you have no right to dictate my life. I'm only sitting here because you threatened me. My brother will eventually grow strong enough.”
With that, Natalie lowered her head and went back to eating.
“Oh, right. Since you won't admit the child is yours, Joanna will probably keep clinging to you. I think you should face up to your responsibilities sooner rather than later.”
Natalie opened her phone and played Joanna's words for Sebastian to hear.
“Listen carefully. Joanna said the child is yours. Sebastian, do you know how lovely children are? How can you let your own child be subjected to gossip?”
After this, Sebastian would have to divorce her, right?
But Sebastian said nothing. He lowered his head and ate. After a few bites of cabbage, he said, “Send me a copy of that recording.”
“Ah…” Natalie looked at him and smirked. “I get it, I get it. After all, it's the voice of your beloved. You must want to listen to it over and over every day.”
Sebastian was taken aback. He looked at her with his deep eyes, realizing that's what she thought.
But seeing her enjoy her food so much, his appetite returned. He was miserable. He had thought about letting her go, but he knew that without the bond of marriage, if Natalie left, she would never come back.
The men around her were all outstanding.
But he only had her.
Sebastian ate in silence. He had grown accustomed to her cooking; it was better than anything he could get outside.
The two finished their dinner in silence. Natalie quietly cleared the table and went to the kitchen to wash the dishes.
Sebastian watched her go into the kitchen before heading upstairs and dialing Joanna's number.
“Sebastian.” Joanna's pleasantly surprised voice came from the other end.
Sebastian's eyes were bloodthirsty, his voice even colder. “You told Natalie you're carrying my child?”
