But has Lydia really found the better life Quincy promised her?
A hint of doubt clouded his eyes. He suddenly wasn’t sure if his determination had been right or wrong.
Maybe if he hadn’t started his own company, they could have found other ways to convince her father. Would things have turned out differently?
“You should go home. I’m done going along with your plans for these meetings. I won’t be getting involved anymore.” Quincy paused, then added calmly, “And hand over the rest of the herbal tea ingredients.”
Without waiting for a response, he left.
This time, their conversation ended in yet another argument. After that, Quincy spent all his time with Lydia, stepping away from the business and letting others take over for the time being. Luckily, Nash was there to help manage things.
With Quincy’s constant care, Lydia began to show signs of recovery. The deep grief over losing the baby seemed to be lifting, though occasionally, she would stare off at a baby bottle or a child’s toy with a faraway look. But overall, she was getting better.
Seeing her gradually return to herself allowed Quincy to finally relax a little.
A few days later, Mrs. Perez called, saying she was ready to hand over the herbal tea ingredients. Quincy immediately asked his assistant to pick it up, but she saw through his plan.
"If you want it, you have to come yourself," she insisted.
After thinking it over, Quincy agreed. He informed Lydia before heading out to retrieve the herbal tea ingredients.
What he didn’t expect was that Lydia would quietly slip out of the hospital and follow him.
"Driver, please follow the black car ahead. Thanks," Lydia told the taxi driver.
It was because of this photo that Lydia had decided to follow Quincy. She couldn’t rely on what others said. She needed to see the truth with her own eyes.
Sensing Lydia’s growing silence, the driver seemed to understand more, a flicker of sympathy in his eyes as he quietly pressed on the gas.
Fifteen minutes later, Lydia arrived at the Perez family's apartment building. Outside, there was a small playground, a favorite spot for retired elderly folks to hang out and chat. They often gathered there to exchange gossip.
By coincidence, when Lydia arrived, she overheard a conversation.
“I just saw Mrs. Perez’s son. Wow, that guy is really handsome!”
“Right? I heard he started his own company and became a boss. Too bad he’s already got a fiancée lined up. I just saw his mom bringing a girl upstairs. Since she’s meeting the parents, they’re probably not far from getting married."
