ASHER
I left my keys outside the room and made my way downstairs into the basement. That's where we were keeping the traitors. And that was where I saw Luca.
After everything that had happened, we hadn't really spoken. We hadn't even looked at each other. The moment our eyes met, something passed silently between us. But neither of us said a word. He simply gave me a small nod before walking toward one of the cells and unlocking it.
Of course... One of our VIP guests was Matteo. He was hanging by ropes from the ceiling, and Other than the sweat dripping down his face from the heat of the room, he looked untouched, exactly as I had instructed. No one had laid a finger on him.
"Uncle," I said with a smile.
He gritted his teeth. "You think you've won?" he spat. "You think this makes you strong?"
He laughed bitterly.
"What are you going to tell your aunt? What are you going to tell your cousins? By now everyone knows you have me."
"Yes," I answered calmly. "And they also know never to cross me."
I walked closer.
"You've gotten away with a lot of tiny indiscretions over the years."
I stopped directly in front of him.
"And I think that's my fault."
I tilted my head.
"I let you go because you're my uncle. I let you get away with it again and again. And that made you think I couldn't hurt you. It made you think you could reach higher than you are, made you feel invincible."
I smiled.
"So now it's my job to remind you....you're not who you think you are."
He laughed again.
"What are you going to do? Torture me?"
"You were born high up in this world," I replied. "You were born a prince of this family, but You've never been in this position before..... You have never had to fight to keep yours. You think because you've hurt people, you understand pain?"
I shook my head.
"You've never had to work hard a single day in your life. You were the Don's son, the Don's brother, the Don's uncle. You've always lived under someone else's protection."
I leaned closer.
"But now....you're finally going to face the real consequences of believing you're more than you are."
His smile slowly disappeared.
"If you're going to kill me," he muttered, "just do it."
"Not today." I looked him straight in the eye. "Today... I need names. I want everyone involved in your little plan."
He laughed again. He was still laughing when we started, but three hours later... He wasn't. By then, both of his hands were missing fingernails. So were several of the nails on his feet. Sweat soaked through his clothes. He was shaking, crying, begging, and pissing himself.
Honestly... I thought it would take a lot more. Instead... He gave me everything. Every name, every captain, every soldier, every politician, every businessman. Everyone who had ever agreed to stand against me.
He even gave me his own son. The same son he had been grooming with promises that one day, when his father became Don, he would inherit everything after him.
He outed even his own blood..... I looked at him with disgust.
"Pathetic."
I spat in his face before turning around and walking out.
By the time I left the basement, I was exhausted. There was blood on my sleeves, and A few drops had dried on my hands. Sweat clung to my skin, and I stopped by one of the bathrooms downstairs, took a shower, changed into clean clothes, and quietly went upstairs.
The house was silent, so I checked on Ariella and Leon. They were still asleep and peaceful. For a long moment, I simply stood there watching them breathe. Reminding myself: this- this was why I did all of it. I quietly closed the bedroom door. Then I made my way toward the office.
