Wounded, whimpering but still gritting through the agony, I took a fierce sprint and leapt into the rainforest. My wolf hooves thundered across the ground as I rushed toward the waterfall that split the region in two, and there I stumbled, taking a rough limp.

With a low, guttural howl, I shifted back into my human form, rising to my feet, naked, bare, and unbothered, as I stepped toward my residence.

My abode.

The Loft built deep within the woods, surrounded by a rainforest of illusions.

I walked inside, pushing open the pristine wooden door that led into my spacious living room overlooking a vast ocean.

I headed straight for the bathroom, wide to a fault, and reached for the handles. Instantly, the shower roared to life, spraying water from all corners, drenching me completely as I stood barefoot at the center, chest rising and falling hard.

This is one of the disadvantages of being a rogue.

Especially a rogue like me.

I miscalculated the mission.

I was lied to and I paid for it. Fully.

With a low groan, I looked down at my side where my skin was torn open, blood seeping out in a thin line, only for it to slowly knit itself back together, healing.

Once the wound sealed and vanished, I lifted my gaze to the mirror in front of me and stared into

my

own reflection.

Broad shoulders. Tattoos covering my chest and back. Only my thighs were untouched. My legs bore their own markings of a life too violent, too chaotic.

I was about to look away when the memory crept back in, a memory I didn’t expect.

I had kissed a woman to hide.

And in a wayshe had saved me.

I swallowed as her shocked expression flashed across my mind. She had looked stunned, almost

like she had never been kissed that way before. The soft gasp she let out echoed in my head. And her lipsthose plump, warm lips

I was lost in the thought when the sound of my cellphone ringing snapped me back. I turned off the shower, grabbed a towel, and stepped into the living room.

I wrapped the towel around my waist as I walked over to the burner phone vibrating on the table. I stared at the screen, swallowed, and waited a few seconds before answering.

Boss, are you okay?

Silence.

I didn’t respond.

A rugged sigh burst from the other end, relief washing through Desmond, my secondin- command and cousin, who oversaw the Godlike mafia empire beside me.

I gave the wrong information, Boss. You shouldn’t have walked in there at that hour,he continued. But I only clenched my jaw, carrying a fury too heavy to speak through.

I said nothing.

Instead, I walked to the bar counter standing elegantly at the side of the living area and poured myself a glass of wine. I barely brought it to my lips before the anger overtook me and I flung the glass across the room. It shattered violently against the wall.

Desmond went quiet.

A long, heavy silence before he breathed an apology.

It’s Yenda,” he admitted softly. Your brother.

Hearing that name made me swallow hard.

Yenda.

Yenda Godlike.

The first son of my father. The heir of Godlike Pack. The one who managed eighty percent of our legal business.

My big brother, who has never once hidden the hatred he carried for me. The jealousy. The resentment because I bear the Godlike name despite being nothing but an orphan my father picked up from the streets.

All these years, I endured him. I respected him. I bowed where I had to. He is

the trueblooded son of Alpha Ruis, my father, the man I worship like a god because he pulled me out of the gutter and gave me a life.

I shouldn’t have stepped out tonight. I wasn’t even supposed to be working.

I was meant to be offduty for the holidays because since January I’ve barely slept. Two hours a night was a luxury. November and December were supposed to be my break.

But last night my father called.

Urgent.

An order.

In the mafia Godlike Empire, my father is the godfather. Whatever he says becomes law, my law.

The order was simple.

Yenda was caught by his business rival, Mr. Hanba, a human business tycoon, while laundering an insane amount of illegal money.

Money laundering is my territory. I handle all illegal funds, clean them, and pour them into Godlike’s legal Empire. But my brother couldn’t wait.

He acted selfishly. Illegally and got caught.

He even confronted Mr. Hanba personally, trying to threaten him into silence.

But Yenda botched the job.

By the time Father called, Yenda had already gotten into a fight with Hanba. The bastard planned to expose everything tonight. If Godlike’s legal empire fell, the illegal one would crumble with it. There would be no way to spend our black money.

I had to step in.

Time was short. I needed intel, and because it was urgent, I didn’t have time to gather it myself. Yenda was the one who provided the information.

According to him, Mr. Hanba would meet the press at nine p.m.

But he lied.

Hanba met them an hour earlier.

I had to speed up the plan.

Slitting Hanba’s throat before he reached the cameras was easy.

Escaping?

Much harder.

As powerful as my rogue wolf is, it’s nothing compared to a large slab of

Mr. Hanba must have known he would be targeted. He planted human security guards and silver traps. I was stabbed during the chaos and only escaped by the skin of my teeth, crashing my lips into a stranger’s under the snowy night.

Now, sighing, I understood the truth.

My brother wanted me caught. He wanted everything pinned on me.

This wasn’t his first attempt at getting rid of me.

Boss?Desmond’s voice echoed through the phone, but I didn’t speak.

I hung up.

Turned off the phone.

Grabbed one of the wine bottles from the counter.

I walked toward the large couch and dropped heavily onto it, drinking directly from the bottle before reaching for the cigarette pack on the center table.

I lit one and exhaled smoke into the quiet room, listening to the wind outside, the snow falling softly, and the winter aura embracing my sanctuary.

Living in a place no one could find, unless bonded to me by the Moon Goddess, I believed I had moved here for peace.

Yet peace was something I barely had.

As I blew out the second stream of smoke, her eyes flashed in my

mind again.

That stranger I held. The woman I kissed. The one I claimed for a single heartbeat.

Such a beauty.

A pity I will never meet her again.
