That was the first question Eshan asked when I prepared to follow them to the prison, and I stopped to look at him. We had made our analysis, and we had already agreed to go interview Marlik Rogue, take his statement, and measure the genuineness of it.
If his statement turned out thick and accurate enough, and if his sentencing became questionable, then the case would be reopened..
From the Detective side, Wrinks told her members she would lead and go with one of them, a lady slightly older than I am, Dana, while from the profiling team, Mr. Gerald handpicked me, obviously to make life harder for me. He said since I was new I should actually work and not act like some nepo kid.
But now, standing ready for the journey, Eshan, who was in charge since the responsibility of all the case sat squarely on his shoulders, stopped me with that question, and I sighed.
“I’m going along for the interview.”
“Well, I seriously doubt that.” He replied, but right then, Mr. Gerald chose that very moment to walk into the hall and meet us. Eshan turned to him. “Bring another profiler. She’s staying here.”
Upon hearing this, Mr. Gerald turned to me, and a wicked smile curled at his lips. He glanced at me with that look that screamed that he believed he was right, that I was a product of nepotism.
My shoulders almost sagged at that.
“I should go, Eshan. It’s work.”
“Oh, I see what is happening.” Mr. Gerald began, his voice stiff. “Well of course, by all means, Mr. Eshan Frost, we will appoint another profiler to go analyze Marlik Rogue. After all, you children of Mr. Grant Frost cannot be messed with, right?”
I nearly rolled my eyes, sighing as I walked up to my brother and took his hand.
“You will be there, and I will be fine. Hmm?”
Eshan didn’t move. His eyes were pinned on Mr. Gerald. He stared at him long and hard

before tearing his gaze away with a glare.
“You will ride with me.” He said, then walked away, and I watched his retreat disappear from view.
Silence fell after his departure, and I made to go after him when Mr. Gerald’s voice came again.
“You shouldn’t come empty–handed, Snow. If you truly want to stay as a profiler who wasn’t handed this job on a golden platter because she comes from a great family, then you must bring something tangible back as a profiler.”
I looked at him quietly, knowing what he was doing. He wanted to frustrate me, to make me believe his assumptions were right, but I refused to give him that satisfaction.
I was going because it was my job. And yes, because of Cupid. I needed to make sure his brother was properly interviewed.

When Eshan’s car stopped at the garage post, I realized Sweet Gossip Feed had gotten ahead of us. They already had reporters there, and among them was Dove.
When I alighted and she saw me, she quickly left her team and hurried over.
“Hey.” I hugged her, and she pulled back to bow toward Eshan’s direction. He gave her a quick smile before heading to speak to the man in charge.
“You’re here too?”
“It’s a big case,” Dove replied. “Ms. Claudia wanted us to arrive before the Daylights.”
Hearing that, I sighed. Right. I had almost forgotten Sweet Gossip Feed, S.G.F, and Daylight News were always at each other’s throats.
“You know my brother isn’t going to grant any interview to you all, right? Mirena owns all the exclusive information.”
“That’s not fair. We got here first.”
“Family first, Dove.” I teased with a wink, and she groaned. She was about to speak when Dana called my name.
“Snow, come on.”

At that, I gave Dove a small look and walked by her. I followed Dana into the dimly lit hall until a door to the visiting room was finally pushed open.
It was a bit tidy inside, but the energy around the place was unbearably dark. Slowly, I made my way farther in, stopping at the window and staring at the towering block fence that rose almost to the sky, sealing the prisoners inside.
For a heart–stopping second, I just stared. Stared and waited for that divine feeling of the Moon Goddess in this place, but what settled in me was nothing but emptiness, and my heart sank as the realization washed over me.
The Moon Goddess never visited this place. Her grace and divinity were absent here. A cold chill ran down my spine when the sound of chains echoed from the hallway, and goosebumps prickled my skin when the door opened again, signaling he was here. Marlik Rogue.
I blinked, forcing air into my lungs as I turned, my eyes settling on him. First sight and I froze. The photo ad lied. And perhaps Cupid had lied, unless a transformation happened overnight.
Marlik stood before me with a quiet, graceful presence. And I could admit there was nothing like fear in his eyes. Maybe a touch of regret, but that was all.
His profile picture showed someone younger, but years had passed and he had evolved with them. There was nothing remotely ugly in his current stance.
His beard was gone, freshly shaved. I could still catch the faint scent of aftershave. His hair was buzz–cut, making the tattoo that curved from his scalp down his the side of his face even more visible. Handsome was an understatement, and the aura rolling off him settled deep inside me.
Unlike Cupid, I could assess his emotions. I could read him to a certain point. There was a barrier he’d set up, but beneath it, I felt he was ready to see all this through.
And beneath that, I sensed something else. The unwavering confidence he had in his brother, Cupid Godlike.
