“It has been many years ago. Do you expect me to remember anything? The name of the one who was murdered? Hell, I can’t even remember my own mother’s name anymore.” She replied, trying not to panic, but I saw the fear leaking through her eyes and ! nodded slowly.
“You know…” I began quietly, searching her gaze. “You know he can still forgive you. Marlik, I mean. He said something yesterday when we went to him. He said… you didn’t know about everything. That you were only following orders. As a profiler, I can tell Marlik still feels something for you…”
“I’m not going to snitch on Feroz if that’s what you’re trying to do, missy. And I want to get out of here!” she snapped suddenly. But she was already cracking.
She had just mentioned Feroz and judging by the look in her eyes, she was breaking.
“Maybe you don’t have to tell on Feroz about everything. Just one statement that will help Marlik in any way. The rest, H.O.W.L will take care of.”
She shook her head hard, refusing to let my words sink in. She grabbed her bag and pinned me with her gaze.
“I have to go,
and…”
“The Moon Goddess wasn’t in that place.”
I cut her off, and she went still. Completely still.
“Marlik is a rogue werewolf. He needed the presence of the Moon Goddess over him. But in that prison, there is nothing divine. Nothing sacred. Only darkness, Rasha.
He is a man who loved you. A man who, at one point, lived in your heart. He did four years for you, didn’t he? Will you leave him? Forsake him?”
By now she was trembling, clutching her bag so hard her knuckles whitened, staring at me like she hated that I was pulling her emotions open.
“You think H.O.W.L can get Feroz?” she asked next, and the coldness in her tone made every hair on my body rise. “It takes one monster to kill another. You all are saints, too soft for a man like Feroz. Yes, Marlik saved my ass. He’s a fool in love. I never once wanted him. If he hadn’t been so crazy clingy, he wouldn’t be in this mess.
A sweet sacrifice, and Feroz used him. Used me.
Sold to Feroz at nine, sucking his cock and being his whore all my life, becoming a pornstar under his orders because he’s a damn voyeur… you seriously think any of you stand a chance against a man like that?”
My face drained of color as the bitterness poured from her. Then she lowered her gaze and shook her head, tears brimming.
“Marlik… won’t be saved, missy. Shall we bet? Nothing can save him. Not even my statement. He is so fucked up. That’s where he will rot till he dies. I’m sorry, but that’s the truth from the criminal world. The real truth.”
My shoulders sagged, but my heart thudded faster.

Moments like this, this fragile break, were the ones interrogators used to win confessions.
Slowly, I reached for her hand. She stiffened, shocked that I would offer comfort.

“Calm down, Rasha. Then tell me. You mentioned Marlik… how he was doomed because he clung to you. Does that mean he wasn’t a drug trafficker? He served a four–year sentence for that, but in truth, he only took the fall for you?”
Rasha stared at me with trembling lips, and when tears spilled from her eyes, she nodded.
“Stupid,” she whispered. “Run, Rasha, I got this. That’s what he told me that day, and I obeyed. He was sentenced, but I never meant to abandon him. I… I just didn’t have the power to fight Feroz. He made me choose between Marlik and my life, and love wasn’t worth dying for, so I ditched Marlik. I didn’t care as long as I lived. Selfish, right?”
She sniffed. I didn’t answer. I needed her to keep talking.
“It was a week before Marlik’s release when the death happened. I don’t know who died. All I know is it involved a businessman called…”
Shot!
A sharp tingle shot through my veins as the bullet tore through the wall and went straight into Rasha’s head.
I froze. Completely frozen.
Rasha stared at me with wide eyes‘ then the bullet wound revealed itself, and blood spilled down her forehead, shocking me into
madness.
Another shot rang out.
I screamed out, emptying my lungs then lunged for Rash through the room relentlessly.
In the hallway, footsteps pounded.
falling body, dragging her behind the wall, shielding her as bullets tore
I held Rasha’s head, searching for life, but the hole drilled into her skull sank my heart in horror.
I was about to scream again when Rasha’s hand suddenly clutched my arm, making me shudder violently.
She moved her lips. I leaned down, shaking uncontrollably, trying to hear her.
“Yes? Rasha… stay calm, help is coming, and…”
I was speaking when she pulled me down harder, my ear to her lips. Blood bubbled at her mouth.
“Warehouses…” she gagged.
I tried to call for help, to stop her from wasting her last energy, but she gripped me tighter.
“Bring Feroz… down with… with my… autopsy…”
The moment she finished, the door was kicked open and Eshan rushed in, dragging me away to safety.
Officers swarmed the room. The shooting ceased.

The hallway echoed with chaos as my brother pulled me close and guided me away, while the image of Rasha’s shattered forehead etched itself into my mind forever.
Commotion roared, but her final words settled in my mind like a heavy stone.
Bring Feroz down with her autopsy.
Warehouses.
My mind snapped back when a sharp voice called my name.
“Snow!”
I blinked. Eshan’s face came into focus, his eyes wide with horror.
“My Good Lord, Snow, are you okay? Are you shot? Snow?”
Never had I seen Eshan so terrified. I gripped his hand tighter, swallowing hard.
“Autopsy…”
“W…what?”
“Autopsy… for Rasha.” I looked around quickly for Sera. “We have to do the autopsy.”
