I woke with a start, sitting up abruptly, heart racing as my eyes swept the room. Panic surged, then slowly eased as recognition settled in.
This is my mother–in–law’s hospital.
I’m… safe.
But where is everyone?
The question barely finished forming when approaching footsteps sounded. The door opened, and immediately my brothers walked in. I straightened at once, heart lodged painfully in my throat.
I know how worried they must have been. I know how…
The door opened again and Ares walked in.
My breath stopped.
The air left my lungs completely, like something had punched straight through my chest. The sight of him, those eyes, that presence dragged everything back. Every truth I’d buried since walking away from him at the courtroom came crashing down all at once.
“Snow.”
His voice broke the silence as he stepped forward.
I tore my gaze from him and looked at my brothers instead, silently demanding an explanation.
Why are they allowing this?
My human brothers hated Ares from the beginning. Even more after he took me away from them. Worst of all, they despised him when they discovered he had been drugging me, deliberately preventing my womb from healing.
So why is he here?
“Snow, are you okay?”

His voice pulled me back again. I swallowed the bile rising in my throat, then turned away from him completely, lying back down and facing the wall.
Silence fell.
He should understand it.
I have nothing to say to Ares Bani. Nothing at all.
“You should leave.” Eshan’s voice came at last. Sharp, controlled.
But the shift in the room told me Ares wasn’t ready to comply.
“She’s still my

wife.”
Kashi’s voice was cold, precise, lethal in its calm.
In my world, Kashi is the beast wrapped in silk.
Ares lingered, until his phone rang. Whatever he saw on the screen made him turn away. He walked out without another word.
The door closed. Footsteps faded.
Only then did I finally exhale.
My heart slowed, settling shakily. A warm palm touched my arm, and I turned to see Kashi beside me. Quietly, I sat up and wrapped my arms around his neck. He kissed my hair gently.
“You’re safe now,” he murmured, pulling back just enough to search my eyes. Then he kissed my cheek. “You’re safe. Alright?”
I nodded, grounding myself in his reassurance.
Then I lifted my gaze to Roc and Eshan, and stiffened immediately.
Unlike Kashi, they were always hard on me. Their stares pinned me in place.
I shifted uneasily and sighed.
“I… I’m sorry… I…”
“I told you to call either Kashi or Roc to pick you up.” Eshan cut in coldly. “Didn’t I?”

I froze under his stare and nodded.

“Yes,” I whispered. “You did. I was about to call when my mother rang. She told me Viviana was arriving, and I… I zoned out. I forgot. I entered the taxi before reality hit me. I tried to call, but the driver turned violent. I barely managed to dial Kashi before it got worse.”
Silence followed my explanation.
Roc and Eshan exchanged a look. Their expressions softened just a little.
Kashi sighed, studying my face.
“We were worried sick,” he said quietly. “We thought it was Feroz’s men. H.O.W.L has been closing in on him, so it made sense. If anyone were to abduct you…”
“No.”
The word slipped out before I could stop
I lowered my gaze, nausea twisting my stomach.
I’d interrogated Rasha before she died. I knew the signs. Those men who abducted me talked about only one thing. Rape. Violation. Nothing strategic. Nothing profitable.
There’s nothing to gain for Feroz if I’m raped and his men are professionals. If it were them, I wouldn’t have escaped.
The only person who would want me violated again is Viviana Mooncrest.
“Snow?” Kashi called gently.
I looked at him, and the pain in my chest deepened. I couldn’t tell him. Especially not him.
I sighed and leaned into him instead. He wrapped an arm around my waist, patting my back in slow, steady motions.
The room fell quiet. They understood there was nothing more to say,
“We’ll keep this off the internet,” Roc said finally. “Dad’s on his way back. We’ll tell him when he arrives.”
At that moment, Kashi’s phone buzzed. He glanced at the screen and frowned.
“Rusi,” he said. “It’s a text. A threat.”

I almost rolled my eyes.
Rusi. Ares’s lawyer. Loud. Dramatic. Useless.

“He won’t do anything.” Roc replied calmly. “Werewolf mate bonds are the only complex ones. Ares Bani and Snow on’t have one. The divorce has been filed. In a month, Ares won’t even be allowed to breathe in Snow’s direction.”
“I still want to prosecute him.” Eshan muttered. “If it weren’t for Dad and publicity, he’d be dead in court already.”
Roc sighed, holding the room together the way he always did.
“You two should go home and rest. I’ll stay with Snow and drive her home tomorrow. The doctor says she’ll be discharged by morning.”
Kashi pulled back reluctantly, studying my face one last time. Satisfied, he leaned down and kissed my temple.
Then he left.
