She is slipping away from my control, from the cage, and it’s happening fast, faster than I can bear. I hated it. A burden? Maybe. But I want her caged, vulnerable, seeing only me as her savior.

A work? At H.O.W.L? A profiler? No. That’s the top of the world. Whoever works at H.O.W.L. is no ordinary person. I swallowed down the groan threatening to escape my lips. Her brothers are her strength. I know it. The Frost family are powerful, and their women, equally so.

If I allow Snow to mingle with them, she’ll slip away faster than I can blink. None of her human family likes me. It’s obvious from how they opposed our marriage in the first place.

Worse, if they dare reopen the case from four years ago, my name could surface as a culprit. I can’t let that happen. Not with Viviana’s safety on the line, not with my company at stake. I’ve bled for four years to build Frosty Airlines And Resort F.A.A.R. I must act.

She stood a few steps away, her eyes tender, softening something in me. She isn’t aware of the danger. She only wants to prove her worth. But I don’t want that. All I want is for her to live quietly, as my wife.

I walked closer, reaching for her hand, my gaze smothering as usual.

“I thought we agreed to have pups, Snow. Why do you want to work? A profiler? That’s even higher than anything. You’ll be targeted by criminals, and the moon goddess forbade it, they can even trace you back home. You could be in danger, and I don’t want that.”

“Ares…”

“All I wanted was for you to stay home and be safe. Remember I paid a lot for your healing sessions. Have you been taking your medication? You agreed to this, Snow. Why are you…”

“I can’t impregnate myself, can I?” she cut in sharply, interrupting me. Her cold glare lingered a moment before melting into something I couldn’t read. Slowly, she pulled away from putting distance between us as she spoke.

“You were never home to lay with me, so it’s pointless. I’m working, Ares. Soon you’ll see it’s for the best.”

With that, she turned and disappeared into the bathroom. A few minutes later, I heard the water running, and I swallowed hard.

She is growing wings. She’s about to run wild. I must take her before she flies free.

“The chart’s looking brighter on this side. Getting the Godlike on board as our investor is the best holiday gift we could dream of. Sir, what do you think?”

Silence. I hadn’t even been listening until Veyron tapped my shoulder gently. I lifted my gaze from the blank space I’d been staring at to see I was in the conference hall.

Staring at the screen displaying the holiday charity plan, I sighed. Earlier today, good news and bad news collided. The bad news is that my wife had insisted on working. The good news is that the Godlike Legal Empire had agreed to be our investor this holiday.

During the holidays, the Godlikes traditionally partner with a human–run company to organize charity for humans and werewolves alike.

They’d invest in my company to ensure the needy could travel on my airlines for free and stay at our resorts without charge, spreading joy and harmony among humans and wolves.

“You’ve reached out to the CEO of Godlike Legal Empire?” I asked Mr. Cabi, one of the shareholders coordinating the meeting. He nodded.

“Mr. Yenda agreed to appear for the meeting to finalize schedules. But he mentioned he won’t handle the charity rotation himself, someone else will.”

I raised an eyebrow.

“Who will handle it?”

“We’re not sure yet. They’ll appear together on the meeting day.”

I sighed. A charity event rotation is the most stressful part. Making schedules, coordinating humans and wolves, putting smiles on faces, hugging the needy, it’s exhausting and disgusting. I wouldn’t even represent the humans myself.

Then I paused. Wait. If Snow really wants to work, she should take this task. It’s her dream anyway to work. Let her. She won’t last a day as the charity coordinator before realizing the folly of her independence.

I lifted my gaze to the board and made the decision.

“About the charity events, I have someone in mind to represent the humans.”

Everyone paused, their breaths hitching. No one wanted that position. I knew that.

“My wife has been at home for a long time. She wants to step out and work for a change. She’s kind and sweet, perfectly suited to help the needy. She will represent the humans and Frosty Airlines And Resort F.A.A.R.”

“But… she’s a Mooncrester,” Mr. Cabi murmured. I lifted my gaze to him, incredulous.

“She doesn’t have a wolf. She’s human, no less,” I said, and he nodded, recalling that.

“Oh yes. Well, if no one else wants it, we agree to have her on board.”

The shareholders offered no further suggestions or opposition. Soon, they dispersed, leaving me alone with my assistant.

“I’ll get the documents ready and input your wife’s name as the charity event coordinator,” Veyron said, pausing. “Shouldn’t we inform her before finalizing the documents?”

“She’ll have no say. Her answer will be yes,” I murmured, scanning the room. Lencia, my secretary, wasn’t present.

“She took the day off, claimed a fever,” Veyron said.

I almost rolled my eyes. Valencia Rock was getting bold, taking a day off without permission. That’s what I get since I have been licking her clitoris.

The price for going naked before an employee. Soon, she’d be discarded. Viviana would return shortly. Her four–year modeling program ends this month.
