It was the longest journey of my life. Even whooshing past everything at full speed felt agonizingly slow.

I arrived at Marlik’s house less than ten minutes after ending his call, yet dread gnawed at me I might already be too late.

The lights were on inside, and I could hear voices. My mother was there, and my sister too. These kinds of men shouldn’t have stepped foot in the house in the first place, and the answer to how they found it wasn’t hard to guess

As a mafia man, I already knew Feroz would always have ways to locate Marlik.

I mounted the stairs, sighing shakily to steady myself. I had left Desmond behind, but I knew he’d catch up with my car soon.

I pushed open the door, noting the butler, who usually greeted visitors, was absent from his post tonight. I stepped into the hall and stood still for a brief moment. Then I slowly made my way into the living room.

There I paused at the entrance, taking in the scene. Three men, just as Marlik had said. Two sat on the couch while one loomed intimidatingly behind him. A gun lay openly on the table beside a document and pen, ready for Marlik to sign.

Mother and Yasmin isn’t there and I breath shakily in relief for that.

My sudden appearance interrupted everything. They turned toward the entrance. One rose from the couch, grabbing the gun and advancing on me until Marlik seized his arm.

“Let him be. I’ll sign the papers.”

“Fuck off,” the man snarled, shaking free and swinging the gun toward me. “I know you. Your face looks familiar. Ah… Cupid. Yes. Cupid Godlike. Aren’t you the face of that fucking overpriced perfume? What are you doing here with…‘

He never finished.

The instant he closed in, I seized his neck and snapped it clean, silent. I caught his body before it hit the floor with a thud.

I laid him down quietly, taking the gun from his limp hand and straightening.

The two remaining men froze, stunned, but I was too furious to register anything else.

Slowly, I stepped forward just as both lunged at me.

The first came high, fists swinging wildly for my face. I slipped inside his reach, drove an elbow into his ribs, felt the air explode from his ungs in a sharp gasp.

The second was faster with a knife flashing silver as he slashed low for my gut.

I twisted, caught his wrist mid–motion, locked it straight, and hammered my forearm down across the joint. The knife clattered away.

He snarled and threw a desperate punch with his free hand. I absorbed it on the shoulder, used the momentum to spin him, and kicked the back of his knee. He dropped hard.

The first recovered enough to charge again, but was already moving. I sidestepped, snatched the fallen knife by the blade, reversed grip, and buried it deep in his thigh as he barreled past.

He try to scream but i clasped my palm over his mouth and pushed him to the ground. He stumbled, and collapsed, clutching the gushing wound.

The other froze, eyes wide, hands raised in surrender.

I stood over them, knife still dripping in my hand, and waited for them to accept the fight

was over.

At that moment, the sound of a car approached. The door opened, and the Gafi gang arrived first before Desmond rushing in right behind.

“You alright?” he asked, heading straight to me.

I nodded.

“Yeah, I’m fine,” I murmured, walking to the couch and sinking down with a heavy sigh. I knew if I’d been even a minute later, I’d have lost it completely.

“Boss,” Gafi said. I nodded, looking up at him. “You called.”

“Yeah.”

I turned to Marlik. He stood stunned. He’d watched me fight, hadn’t interrupted once, as though trusting I could handle myself.

“What did they say?” I asked.

He shook his head, pulling out of his shock.

“They wanted me to sign those papers.”

“It’s a confession statement,” I told him. “Just like the one that landed you in jail years ago.”

His eyes flickered to the men on their knees.

“Feroz sent them. They knew this place and they mentioned my mom and my sister.” Marlik stepped forward, glaring at one of the kneeling men. “What is he planning?”

“To send you to the Moon Tower,” I answered instead. Marlik turned to me in awe. “They have it all covered. All that’s missing is your signature on this statement.”

He fell silent, hurt flashing deep in his eyes at how easily he’d become a target. But one look from me, and he swallowed the vulnerability.

“He won’t get to you,” I assured him, nodding firmly. “Not while I’m breathing, Marlik.”

Silence stretched after that solemn promise, until one of the two kneeling men spoke.

“So you’re the one in the shadows helping him?”

We all turned. He set his jaw defiantly as the second added,

“Feroz will find you. And when he does, everything you’ve built will be gone. Your family, your girl…”

I didn’t let him finish. The gun barked once, clean through his head.

Silence descended. The last man shivered as the shot echoed. I swallowed hard.

Oh, I knew I was deep in bloodshed and if I wasn’t careful, everyone I loved would vanish with it.

The silence stretched as blood spread across the tile, but then my cellphone rang, piercing it.

I pulled it out to see Snow calling.

Sighing, I moved to answer when the last of Feroz’s men murmured, still trembling.

“It’s best if you let me go now. Or else…”

“Shut up. Let me take the call,” I told him.

“You’re probably the one who stole the drugs from the warehouses too, right?”

I shot him square in the head sudden, furious.

He dropped dead at my feet with a heavy thud. rolled my eyes.

“He was so loud. So what if I stole the drugs?”

I answered the call, hearing her voice soft, tender, weak.

“Cupid… can you come to me?” she begged.

I slowed.

She sounded sick.

“Please?”

I nodded, heart warming instantly for this one woman.

“Yeah. I’ll find you,” I replied and disconnected, pausing to wonder her.

“Find someone who can impersonate one of these dead men’s mothers. We got

one?”

“Madam Shara would be best.”

“She’ll create a scene at H.O.W.L., claim Feroz killed her son, thinking he was a mole who tipped off the drugs‘ location.”

I turned to Gafi.

“Dumps one of the corpses at H.O.W.L. Gafi. You do the cleanest job. Okay?”

“Piece of cake, boss,” he said.

I nodded.

He signaled his men at once. They came to pack the bodies while the housekeeper emerged to clean the blood from the floor.

Each domestic staff crept out now that things seemed settled.

But to me, it wasn’t settled. Not yet.

“You… you stole Feroz’s drugs?” Marlik’s question finally came.
