Claimed By The Mafia Rogue King (Snow and Cupid) novel Chapter 192

Ares

Staring at the screen of my cellphone, I couldn’t wrap my mind around it. Around the truth, the stark reality, and what had just unfolded half an hour ago.

I had called Snow to check on the charity event’s progress and remind her that the next donation was scheduled for tomorrow, so she needed to arrive at the orphanage on time with the necessary documents.

But what I’d heard on the other end was entirely different. She had sounded almost like the Snow from when we were still married, like the time when I was still the center of her world.

That soft, familiar voice reminded me of those days, until she grew distracted by the Frosts and the call abruptly disconnected.

I sighed shakily, rising from my seat to walk thoughtfully to the window and peer out.

Something was wrong. Deeply wrong. The same Snow I’d encountered at the red carpet, who had ignored me as if I were invisible, wouldn’t have answered my call at all, let alone sounded so… vulnerable.

I was lost in that thought when the sound of the door opening reached me. I frowned, turning to see her standing in the doorway.

Viviana.

She lingered at the entrance without moving for a long moment, her eyes fixed solely on me. Silence stretched between us.

At last, she walked closer, placing her palm gently on my chest before rising on tiptoe to brush a light kiss across my lips as if reminding herself she still owned me.

When she pulled back, a soft sigh escaped her lips, and she moved to perch on the edge of my desk.

“Something is going on with Snow,” she said quietly.

Upon hearing that, I turned fully toward her, interest sharpening instantly.

All my instincts screamed to rush over and demand details, but I grounded myself, careful not to sound too concerned.

“Really?” I asked in a small, measured voice.

In response, she lifted her eyes to mine.

“She’s in the hospital, and she looks… lost. There’s something seriously wrong with her. Something big.”

I closed the distance slowly, needing certainty.

“Like what?” I asked again, voice quiet but eager.

She lifted her head to meet my gaze. Then a small frown crept across her face.

“Why? You look concerned.”

I scoffed lightly.

“I have to make sure she’s fine. She’s supposed to handle the donation tomorrow with Cupid.”

Viviana held my eyes for a long moment, clearly not buying my explanation. She reached out, fingers curling around my tie, and pulled me closer until I stood between her legs.

“Ares?” Neils’s voice came urgently. “We have a huge problem. It’s about Mr. Lin’s case. You should come home. I’ll wait for you there.”

Hearing that, I went literally still.

“I’ll be there shortly,” I replied and disconnected.

I turned to Viviana. She was waiting.

“Vivi, I have to go. My brother-in-law and I need to talk.”

She watched me gather my documents neatly. When I finally faced her, I could tell she knew something was off with me.

She slid off the desk and closed the distance, searching my eyes, then nodded.

“Yeah, sure. I’ll head back to the hospital and see if I can find out what’s up with Snow.”

I swallowed and nodded.

She slipped away, leaving me alone in the office.

I exhaled heavily.

Things were getting far more tense now and Snow… Snowflakes. What was wrong with her?
