Chapter 301

He is tall, like a normal gentleman. Middle forties, perhaps. Steady eyes. Composure neutral, almost detached. It was as though he were meeting a business partner for routine legal matters.
Yet something was off.
He twitched his neck again, briefly, sharply as though fighting an involuntary tic, something that could almost be taken for Down syndrome.
His men stayed behind in the hall. He entered alone. No lawyer.
He didn’t sit quickly. Not even when Eshan walked in and gestured toward the chair.
I stood in the observation room, breath held, surrounded by the rest of Echo members. We all wanted to see how it would play out. The recording was live. Feroz stood motionless for a long moment, then turned his gaze toward the one–way mirror.
Directly at me.
As though he could sense my presence, he took a single step closer then slowed, reconsidered. Finally, he walked to the chair and
sat.
The silence between them stretched into eternity.
Eshan didn’t speak. Didn’t ask questions. The cocky half–smile he usually wore with lesser suspects was gone. Today he was all business. cold, focused, lethal.
At last he spoke.
“We will charge you with sexual assault,” he said flatly. “For slaughter, more charges will pile up the moment we ransack your pack, your house. Do you know that?”
Feroz didn’t answer.
I silently applauded Eshan for holding his stare. I don’t think I could have managed it.
The silence stretched again. heart–aching.
Then Feroz moved, shifted his gaze back to the mirror.
“I want to see her,” he murmured, voice low, almost desperate.
Nausea rose in my throat. I stepped back instinctively.
Feroz sniffed once, sharply. like a junkie catching a scent then placed both palms flat on the table. Impatient.
That was when we saw it.
The scar.
The one we’d been waiting for, jagged, unmistakable, running across the back of his right hand.

Eshan’s eyes dropped to it then lifted slowly back to Feroz’s face.
“If there’s a lawyer you want to call,” he said calmly, “I suggest you do it now.”
“Let me see her…”
Eshan didn’t let him finish.
He rose abruptly and walked out.
Moments later he appeared in the observation room, swallowing hard.
“What did you notice?” he asked, eyes on Mr. Gerald.
“Nothing,” Gerald replied quietly. “Either he hide his emotions well or he doesn’t have any.”
Eshan didn’t need more.
He pulled out his phone and dialed a contact.
410 Free Comm
“Sir,” he said when the call connected. “We’ll need an arrest warrant on Feroz Alpha. And a search warrant too. I have a feeling he’s
a very dangerous, very dubious man with the biggest skeletons in his cupboard.”
Silence on the other end, then Eshan disconnected and tucked the phone away. He exhaled shakily.
“Okay, guys. Quince, you follow me to Alpha Pack.”
He turned to me.
“You should go home.”
“No…”
