When my car pulled into the Castle Healthcare grounds, I spotted Tally V already waiting near the entrance. I stepped out quickly, and she rushed forward, taking my hand in both of hers.

“He’s still awake, Miss Snow. He is,” she said, beaming through tears that refused to fall.

I smiled back, small, hopeful and let her lead me inside.

The VIP section where Kim was receiving treatment felt quieter than the rest of the hospital, almost sacred in its hush. I reached the ward, and the attending nurse greeted me with a wide, genuine smile.

“You’re here, miss,” she said, handing me the visitor’s form.

I scribbled my signature quickly and exhaled softly.

“Thank you. How has he been doing?”

“Perfectly well. He’s progressing beautifully. Now that he’s woken from his short… coma, we’ll run a full check–up soon and present the results.”

I nodded, gratitude warming my chest.

“Thank you.”

The door opened wider. I stepped inside.

Ahead, a young man lay propped up in the bed. Tally V had already adjusted the headrest. Slowly, I approached the bedside.

The last time I’d seen Kim, when I helped rescue him from that grim asylum, he’d been buried under a wild beard and overgrown hair, barely recognizable.

Now he was transformed. Clean–shaven, head neatly shaved, he looked like a spitting image of his father, Mr. Lin.

Handsome, quiet, haunted. A man who had been cheated, robbed, and broken long before his time.

I couldn’t help wondering Who would he have become if Ares had never crossed his path?

“Young Master?” Tally V spoke softly, leaning close. “I told you about Miss Snow. She’s the one who’s been helping us. Her elder brother, Eshan paid for your hospital bills. You should greet her.”

He was awake, but fragile, unsteady. He managed a faint, polite smile, then turned his gaze to the window, staring at the sky and the sun as though he hadn’t seen them in years.

Quietly, I stepped closer.

“Kim… hello.”

Slowly, he turned back to me. I exhaled shakily and asked the question before he could slip away again.

“Kim, do you think you can tell me about the night… your dad died? He was on the phone with you. Did you hear anything? Any words?”

He stared at me blankly. I glanced at Tally V; worry etched deep lines across her face. I tried again, gentler this time, reaching for his hand.

He jerked away sharply.

“You’re here to… to inject me again?” His voice cracked, eyes widening with raw terror. “You’re here to harm me again!”

He began to thrash violently against the sheets. Tally V slammed the panic button. Footsteps thundered down the corridor. The door burst open.

The doctor rushed in, syringe already prepared.

“Stay back,” he instructed firmly.

The sedative went in quickly. Kim’s struggles slowed, then stilled. He lay back, wheezing, chest rising and falling in shallow bursts.

Tally V pressed her palm to her mouth, eyes glistening with pain she couldn’t voice. I swallowed hard against the cruelty that had been inflicted on him, years of it.
