Chapter 379
Chapter 379
Snowflakes
When the sound of approaching footsteps reached us, I shot to my feet so quickly the chair scraped against the tile.
My heart slammed against my ribs, expectation, dread, and fragile hope all colliding at once. The door swung open.
t was Doctor Catina.
Not Cupid.
Disappointment crashed over me like cold water, sharp and suffocating. I had never felt so bitterly let down in my life.
turned to Eshan. He sighed, the sound heavy with thoughtfulness, and rubbed the back of his neck.
‘I called her,” he explained quietly. “She agreed to stay in Cupid’s place for the next twenty–four hours.”
My frown deepened, confusion sharpening into unease.
‘But… don’t you think we should have used a man instead of a woman? Someone who looks more like him?”

‘The cell is pitch–black,” Eshan replied, calm but firm. “No one will notice the difference in the dark. Besides, it’s only for twenty- four hours.”
I exhaled shakily, turning to fix Doctor Catina with a long, level glare. She met my eyes without flinching, then looked away first. I didn’t bother hiding my contempt.
I had already left Castle Pack behind. Night had fallen, thick and starless.
The director had agreed to help once again, but only under strict conditions. He offer a twenty–four–hour window. A single day to find irrefutable evidence that would clear his name. If he failed, the charges would proceed to court, and prison would follow swift and final.
Eshan had been summoned. The guards stationed at the H.O.W.L detention wing had received secret orders to release Cupid under the cover of darkness.
Doctor Catina would take his place, hunched in the shadows, silent, playing the part until the clock ran out.
Now we waited in Eshan’s private office, the air thick with tension. My gaze drifted to the window, the same one Feroz had once dangled from, half–strangled and bleeding, only to survive somehow and vanish into the night.
The reports said he had gone quiet, lying low Perhaps the venom I had spat at him in the hospital had finally burrowed deep enough to wound even his pride.
The door opened again.
I whirled around so fast the room blurred.
Vast, Eshan’s assistant stepped inside first. Behind him came Cupid.
He wore the same clothes from yesterday. Rumpled shirt, dark jeans, faint smears of dried blood still visible of the cufts.

But the man himself was quieter than I had ever seen him, almost unnaturally still. His eyes swept the room in slow, deliberate arcs, cataloging every detail, every shadow. Finally they settled on me.
The sight of him here, cuffed no longer but still carrying the invisible weight of chains shattered something inside my chest. I couldn’t hold back.
I crossed the room in three strides and threw my arms around him, uncaring who saw, uncaring what it revealed.
He stiffened for half a heartbeat, then his arms came around me, slow, careful, as though he feared I might break.
I pulled back just enough to cradle his face between my palms, thumbs brushing the sharp line of his cheekbones.
“Cupid… are you okay?” My voice cracked on the question.
His gaze flicked from me to my brother. Awareness returned to his expression; the vulnerability shuttered itself away. I realized too late that we had an audience.
I half–turned. Eshan was watching, eyes narrowed on my hands still resting against Cupid’s skin. Heat rushed into my face.
I stepped back carefully, tucking a loose strand of hair behind my ear, suddenly self–conscious.
Eshan studied me in silence for several long seconds. Then he gave a single nod to Vast.
His assistant moved to escort Doctor Catina out. She paused at the threshold, turning to look at me. Her eyes lingered, searching, almost wistful for one heart–stopping second. Then she offered a small, tired smile.
“I’m happy for you, Snow,” she said softly. “That you’ve finally healed. Truly… I’m happy.”
Vast guided her away. Her footsteps echoed down the corridor until silence swallowed them.
Happy I had healed? The hypocrisy tasted bitter. Now that escape was impossible, she was grasping at any thread of leniency. ! rolled my eyes at her retreating back.
Eshan spoke into the quiet that followed.
“Make sure he returns in twenty–four hours with or without evidence. You understand what’s at stake. Father is risking his entire career, his reputation, everything he’s built, to make this happen.”
I nodded, throat tight. “I know. I’ll bring him back.”
Eshan’s gaze lifted to Cupid once more, measuring, warning before returning to me.
“Don’t you dare get hurt,” he said, voice low and deadly serious. “If you come back with even a scratch, I will come for film myself With that, he left the office. The door clicked shut behind him, and the absence felt like a physical pressure lifting from the roomt
I swallowed hard. Eshan never made idle threats.
After a long moment, I turned back to Cupid, trying to force lightness into my tone even though my pulse still raced
“We don’t have much time, Cupid, I asked the director to give you this window so we could find something, anything to clear your name. I don’t even know where to start. Only you know how to save yourself. But I’ll be right beside you, tell me what you need. Anything. I’ll do it.”
