Su Qinglan pinched the bridge of her nose. "Okay, let’s talk this through," she said slowly, as if explaining to a very stubborn child. "You say females don’t bathe because they’re fragrant, right?"
Xuan Long nodded seriously, his long hair swaying. "Mn. The scent of females is soft. Sweet. Like morning dew and flowers."
"Uh-huh." Su Qinglan forced a smile. "And you think that’s natural?"
"Yes." He looked at her earnestly. "Is it not?"
She sighed. "No, Xuan Long. That’s not called being clean. You know water washing off dirt that’s what makes people smell nice. This?" She pointed at herself dramatically. "This is not dew and flowers. This is sweat, blood, and an entire day of running through a forest!"
Xuan Long frowned and leaned a little closer, sniffing her with deep seriousness.
He straightened, thoughtful. "You smell... not bad."
Her eyes widened. "Not bad?! That’s the lowest possible compliment!"
He blinked. "Do you want me to say you smell bad instead?"
"I...no! That’s not the point!" she sputtered.
After a long sigh, she composed herself again. "Okay, forget that. Let’s start over. Is there a river nearby? I can just go there and wash."
"There’s no river near here," he said plainly. "The closest one is far. It takes a whole day to run there."
Her mouth dropped open. "A whole day?! Then where did you get the water in that bowl?"
He tilted his head, thinking for a moment, then replied, "The river is far away, but don’t worry. I can bring enough water for you to bathe."
She blinked at him in surprise. How will he do that?
But she quickly decided not to argue. "Okay," she said, "Can you bring the water here? I’ll bathe inside the cave."
She looked around, then pointed to the empty space. "Find a big stone bowl... something deep enough. If you fill it with water, I can bathe easily."
Beastmen were strong; she knew that. For them, lifting something huge was nothing.
Just as she expected, Xuan Long nodded without question and went out. A short while later, the sound of heavy footsteps echoed, and then...
Thud!
He placed down a huge stone bowl near the cave wall.
Su Qinglan’s mouth dropped open. It was enormous... almost the size of a bathtub from her previous life. She could probably lie down flat inside it!
"This is... perfect," she said with a small nod. Then she asked curiously, "But where will you bring the water from?"
"Easy," Xuan Long said simply.
He raised his hand, and before she could even blink, water began to appear, filling the stone tub as if an invisible spring had opened right inside it.
Su Qinglan’s eyes went wide. "Wha... You... you can do that?"
He nodded slightly, as if it wasn’t a big deal. "I have forest affinity," he explained calmly. "Everything that belongs to the forest, I can control...water, vines, even the trees. So bringing water here isn’t hard."
Su Qinglan’s jaw nearly hit the floor. She stared at him like a little chick nodding in awe. "That’s amazing..." she whispered. "You can control everything in the forest? That’s so convenient!"
He only smiled faintly at her reaction.
Then she remembered her clothes problem. Tugging on the loose, torn fabric, she asked, "Do you have something I can wear? Maybe some hide or fur?"
Xuan Long’s emerald green eyes flickered as he looked at her. "I’ll bring you something," he said after a pause.
But before leaving, he slowly walked around her... circling once, his gaze moving up and down.
Su Qinglan stiffened, clutching her chest with both arms. "Hey! What are you doing?" she asked, her face turning red.
He looked at her innocently. "Measuring," he said seriously. "To know how much hide is needed."
Xuan Long blinked, unbothered. "Mn. My old scale skin. I shed it."
Su Qinglan just stared at him with a shocked expression.
He looked at her completely seriously. "It’s clean, soft, and very strong. Better than any hide."
She covered her face. "Is it not something private? How could you give it easily to someone?"
He tilted his head again, not understanding, only watching her with quiet eyes full of confusion and faint pride that he found something "good" for his female.
Su Qinglan looked at the shining green fabric in her hands and turned it this way and that, frowning hard.
It was beautifully soft, smooth, and cool to the touch, like liquid jade. But she had no idea how to wear it.
"Does this even have a front or a back?" She mumbled, tugging on one end. "How do you even put this on?"
Xuan Long watched her for a moment, quiet as ever, before stepping closer.
"You’re wearing it wrong," he said seriously.
She gave him a confused look. "Oh, and how would you know which side is which?"
Without answering, he gently took the cloth from her hands and shook it open. The light caught on the scales, making them shimmer like tiny stars. When spread out, it actually looked like a proper outfit, something elegant and flowing, not at all crude like hide clothes.
"Here," he said. "I’ll help you wear it."
"Help me? Wait..." she started, but before she could even finish, he moved closer, and with one smooth motion, he pulled away the towel wrapped around her body.
"Xuan Long!" she almost screamed, clutching the air in panic. "What are you doing?!"
He looked at her calmly, his eyes steady and focused... not a hint of shame, embarrassment, or anything in them. His expression was pure, serious, and oddly gentle.
"I can’t help you wear it with this in the way," he said simply.
